    warm up the EMAW
1.  Smoke is completely clueless.
2.  Watts is slower than Jordy last year and looked awful in man coverage.
3.  When ku lined Meier up at reciever the first play we covered him.  The second play we blitzed and left him open.  The third play we blitzed and left him open and they passed it to him for a first down.  They made adjustments on the fly, we didn't.
4.  What ratio of our blitzes come from the corner as opposed to up the middle?  9:1?
5.  Our outside linebackers so consistently came from the edge that ku was able to run counters away from the blitz or just run right at us and LOL as guys consistently left their lanes.  The fundamentals of this D were lacking.  Tackling, assignments, staying home and keeping contain.  WTF Tibs?  Has your gameplanning overshadowed a lack of fundamentals and FBIQ from the D?  The scripting of the offense and its subsequent struggles have been talked about and I think the same is true on D.
6.  Is ku really that much physical or did we just fail to shed blocks and hold on to guys for tackles?  Was it execution or athleticism?  I honestly don't know.

Feel free to add.

Tibs is a wizard.  We were fine until ku started hitting the cutback in the third quarter.

Then we had to blitz to stop it, then we were screwed on pass rush.  Tibs will correct this in the future.

watch for Ritchie Terry to become awesome once he stops turning the ball over and acting like he's Nick Van Exel.

My point is that our blitzes are almost exclusively from the edge.  This makes it very easy for the offense.

LOL

You have to give him time.  I know we all thought he would come right in and blow things up.  But if he has the smarts it will begin to show.  But we need to start seeing things soon.

They were exclusively from the edge to stop the cutback.  It stopped the cutback, but hurt the pass rush.

    The "other" KSU
ANY time you have your starters going for arm tackles vs. open field tackling - you are going to have problems. I have noticed that our defenses in the past weren't "Spectacular" in the types of plays (Newman excluded from that statement) that they made. We just had some hard nosed guys who put their faces in the chests of the opponents ala Jeff Kelly, Mark Simeneau, Travis Ochs, Brian Hickman, Josh Buhl etc and beat on guys relentlessly... I hope that Tibs works on the fundementals this week. If our open-field tackling doesn't improve, we will be in for a LONG LONG season, boys.

Saturday's poor tackling was uncharacteristic, IMO.

I remember everyone saying murphy was the second coming of bo jackson when he came here in 98...whoops, he can't even catch a ball (or hold on to it).

    Fear the Brick
Childs does nothing for me.  He and Herndon were ineffective at blitzing.  We were there in the hole to make some plays, specifically Roland and Walker, and we just flat out missed.  Watts also threw a ton of no hitters.  I actually thought if we just rushed 4 and dropped back into coverage we probably would've gotten more picks, especially when ku was against the wind.  Our corners/db's got beat on inside slants because there was no backer to throw over/around, it was just a straight throw to the WR in stride.  I think our blitzing is becoming predictable given the offensive sets.  As the game wore on, ku showed a formation and new exactly where we'd be coming from in that formation.  Tibs has to mix it up a bit more, but seriously, we extended so many drives on 3rd downs just off of missed tackles.  I didn't think Reesing was very comfortable until the 3rd QTR drive for a TD.

Good stuff.  We need to remember Tibesar is like 19 years old and is still learning the ropes.  I think he will get it fixed.

yeah, we said that about Crunk too.  Difference being that Tibs actually called games before.  He just needs to get tighter, more disciplined in the manner at which he blitzes.  I think we gamble and leave ourselves a bit too open on occassion (kind of like Bennett used to) when maybe the better call is to just send 4.  I do think the missed tackles were uncharacteristic, although I think ku got us into positions where we had more one on one tackling situations than normal.  The way we played defensively kind of reminded me of the '00 OU game in manhattan.

Raheem didn't make any adjustments.  Tibs just makes adjustments a little late.  Tibs is closer.

    ku Swallows
My favorite was using 2 defenders to cover 3 receivers.  The first time was on Talib's TD.  The second was on the dropped pass to Fine.  Nearly the same exact play.  Passing to Talib on that one would have been a TD for sure, so I guess the D used 2 defenders to cover 1 receiver.

IIRC, it was the exact same play, and we f'd it up both times (also, Patterson was in on both plays).  Both Fine and Talib were open.

Patterson?

The same guy that was supposed to cover Talib when ku was on the 5 and was standing around watching Talib go to the corner and catch the TD pass from Reesing?

That guy?

Looks more like to me he's smoking something than somebody.

All excellent questions, Kat Kid. I wish I knew the answers. More importantly, I wish K-State's coaching staff did.
