J-Mart does:

Q: Is James Franklin a legit D1 OC? We play well when scripted at the beginning of games, but once we're out of that, we have a hard time moving the ball. Happened with UT, Auburn, and ku. Discuss...
JJ, KC, MO 10/07/07

A: How much power do you really think James Franklin has? Your assessment is correct with the scripting. If they scripted the first 40 plays, maybe the offense wouldn't lag. Seriously, it's clear the offense is an issue. But how you suggest improving it? What would work at this point?
Jeffrey Martin 10/07/07

...so we basically have an offensive consultant like under Snyder?  Maybe I'm missing it, but does Prince pull out a play sheet when the offense is out there?

They couldn't be more correct re: scripting.  The dropoff is incredibly noticeable and disturbing.

Ron Prince doesn't care about offense...remember?

The guy has got to go... he has never had this responsibility before. Wasn't he the recievers coach in Green Bay before he was here? Then you would think that he would know how to use recievers like Jordy and LaMark. He is crappy and putting him in the booth vs the field wasn't enough, they should have put him out the freaking door. He is terrible.

I think what happens with Arthur Brown will have a lot to do with whether or not Franklin returns.

More than his playcalling, at least.

You're kidding right... LaMark couldn't catch a cold let alone a football.  I'm not sure what the coaching staff sees in that kid but his hands and timing are both really bad.  Put him on defense.

QFT

But isn't also Prince's offensive system and he just gives the playbook to Franklin(in a nut shell).  If Franklin were to leave, I wouldn't be real crushed, though he seems like a decent recruiter.  I just don't want another mass exodous of coaches after this year.

If what J-Mart says is true, then Franklin leaving only hurts recruiting not the play calling.

Assuming he isn't replaced with a better recruiter.  I don't know enough about what he's done in recruiting.  And I think you're kidding yourself if you think Prince is calling the plays (and the play calling is the problem).

If the coaches really want to get him involved on offense and he's as explosive as claimed, why not try to run some reverses or quick passes to the flat to get him the ball.

Honestly, I am beginning to think the coaches burned LaMark's redshirt for nothing.  Wonder if they regret it now?

Reverse... maybe.  Pass in the flats... well that's a little difficult because HE CAN'T CATCH THE BALL!!!

I was just basing that off what J-Mart said.  I happen to think that Prince doesn't call plays; Franklin is still learning to adjust as a play caller.  As mentioned in the Q/A, his scripted plays are quite good/effecient, it's just that after that we have problems.  I think play calling is part of the problem, but it's exacerbated by the fact that, for the 4th year in a row, the o-line still is inept.

Quote: "the o-line still is inept"

I suppose after all is said and done... Prince was known for the development of O Linemen - IMO he still gets a pass as all of the O Linemen aren't "his guys", after next year - there should be no excuse for poor offensive execution. All-in-all I am most dissapointed in the Linemen on both sides, we need to pressure the QB, and we need to protect JF.

LaMark is a FR, and there is nothing that can be done about that.
