I'm reading the following article and asking myself, at what point to we beat down Tim Weiser's door and demand we lock up Prince with a sky high buyout and fattened up salary?

I say that if Prince wins the North this season, we should do it right after our game with Fresno St. or the Big 12 Championship game, regardless of outcome.  I'm at like a 9 on my Prince confidence scale right now.  If he can beat some of our North foes and win the North this season, it will go to a full on strap me in the driver's seat of the bandwagon 10.  BTW, I was at an 8 before the season even started. http://www.ksufans.com/forums/index.php?topic=12755.0

MICHIGAN

People tell me Lloyd Carr will make the call on when he leaves Michigan. I don't dispute that. But I still think this is his final run.

Everyone assumes LSU's Les Miles would be the frontrunner. But don't be shocked if the Wolverines make a run at Cal's Jeff Tedford if the job goes outside the Michigan family. And Kansas State's Ron Prince could be a name to watch if he has a very good season.

The best and brightest on the U-M staff is quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler, but the Michigan grad is too young (32) for the job. He'll be a head coach some day. Not long ago, New England quarterback Tom Brady tried to get him to join the Patriots staff. Yeah, Brady thinks that much of Loeffler.

If we beat ku and go bowling, extend some cash.

I agree, throw the bank at him and make it an easy decision for him to stay for a long time.  Even though he wouldn't leave Freeman here before he's done at KSU, we would need to keep him happy for down the road.  Huggins left Walker but Huggins is a snake and not from around here.  If we win the North there will be major interest in Prince from more than one program.  Even if we come up short, an 8 or 9 win season including two wins over a ku, NU, and/or NU deserves a raise.

Why is this the criteria?  We are above that.  If we get 8 wins then extend with a reasonable raise.  He's shown he can play with the big boys.

If we win the North, lock him up long-term with a big fat contract.  K-State is the type of program that should look for continuity and Prince fills our niche very well (from Kansas, first h.c. job).

1) Show the ability to win the key North games for the fanbase (ku, NU, MU) is proven
2) Compete for a North Title
**Never ever forget that we must learn from history:

Example A) Young coach made some on the job mistakes, people were impatient and we ran him out. He is now a great coach and would have done quite well in due time. Dana Altman is the name and 13 seasons of crappy basketball have existed since he took off for Creighton.

on the other hand Example B) Local guy John Bunting inherited a nice talent base to work with at North Carolina and won some big games while being inconsistent early on. UNC locked him up for a longterm deal and it bit them in the backside.

I was not a supporter of the hire (wanted someone with KSU Snyder ties-) and have been up and down (just like the team) with Prince. As the name indicates I'm one of those guys you all hate, who worships Bill and considers him the FACE of KSU Football forever. That said, I want to win and will always be a KSU fan unless we hire Dennis Erickson (The Huggins of the gridiron!!!)....As of 10:59 on Wednesday, October 3rd I'm in support of Prince, but not enough to give him a lifetime deal.

A bowl invite with this schedule should earn him a pay raise. His stock will jump considerably with a well coached game and victories in the next two weeks. A 3-0 conference start would be a DREAM.

Are there not raises built into his contract? I know there are incentives for certain records, winning the North or Big 12, bowl games, BCS bowl games, etc. But I also thought he was to earn more money each year he is here. So, I guess what I'm getting at is should we offer him a new contract completely, with new salary structure and better incentives/bonuses? I think we should if this season turns out well.

we should also pay our assistants more $ to keep them around, and make our assistant positions more attractive should we need to replace anyone.

Win the North: a whole new, long term contract with a much higher base salary(we aren't paying him much because it was his first head coaching job, 750k/yr), better incentives, more money for assistants and a sky high buyout.

Get 8 wins and decent bowl: an extension and nice raise in salary and assistants salary with higher buyout.

If we win the North, or come callously close, we have to lock him up and increase the pay for the asistant coaches,(Tibesar), so we can actually keep some asst coaches this year.

Yes, Coach Tibs - we have to keep him here with Prince.
