It just dawned on me how fast this team is when I watched Johnson, Nelson, Campbell take their scores to the house.  I know they're only 3 players but our team speed has increased from last year and that's very exciting.

In my head I keep hearing the ABC announcer talk about how Nelson proves that you don't have to have 10.2 speed to be great.  My ass Nelson doesn't have 10.2 speed considering he holds the KSHAA records in both the 100M - 10.63 & 200M - 21.64.  Both of those records were set in 2003 when he was a high school kid, that dude is built like a man now and more importantly he's built like a NFL receiver; he reminds me of a muscular Ed Mccaffrey.

Thoughts?

I see more of a Wes Welker role for Jordy on Sundays.

10.63 is not a KSHSAA record... but yes Jordy is faster than we give him credit for.

Comes from the KSHAA website, argue with them.

As mentioned by Brian Smoller, Rod Cole was not a good fit for Prince.  It's not that Kent is a better S&C guy, but he's just a better fit.

Jordy continues to impress me the way he is always making someone miss or stiff arming someone for extra yards!

Except for that first drive against Auburn on the goaline,  :banghead:

Our team speed is better because:

A.  Jordy is healthy again

B.  Schemes and plays are second nature this season.  Don't forget that the entire team was essentially freshman in Prince's system last year.  Now there is 100% buy in and players can act without having to think things through.   Makes a huge difference.

They did not become vastly more atheletic.

Yes.  But that's not the reason for perceived increase in team speed.  The only guy who is literally faster than last year is Jordy...and I don't think he looks faster than he did as a Soph.  The team appears to be playing faster though...which might be more important.

Which indivdual player (outside of Jordy) is faster (or faster than their predecessor) than last season?  I may be willing to concede the point if there is an example...I can't think of one.

Um, where are you getting this?  Are you just basing this off the injury recovery?

Dude, I don't have their forty times sitting at my desk.  Still, I'd be shocked if there weren't multiple players that increased forty times (and perhaps more importantly, agility.)

Speed is one thing...being organized is another.

We had a convoy before the 30 yard line and Jordy weaved his way up the sideline.

Can't wait till ku has to punt to us.

Agreed, but I don't think it's because he is physically faster, though I won't completely rule it out.  Maybe he did get much faster, but I think it's more likely that it was just the regular adjustment curve we see with most JUCO players.

I do know that Figurs was as fast or faster than Murphy.  I know for sure Norwood is faster than Mustrud.  I suspect Moreira is faster than Gonzo.  Defensively...maybe Chandler is faster than Williams?  I don't think guys like Watts, Campbell and Jackson are any faster than they were last season.  I just think it has a lot more to do with being comfortable with what they are doing than just being more atheletic as a whole.

Yes I am just basing Jordy's speed off of injury recovery.  While I agree than many have probably increased 40 times, I don't think it's a higher percentage increase than it is every year.  Players get bigger, faster, stronger as they go through the system.  Then they move on and are replaced by players that are getting, bigger, faster stronger.  I don't think this was an anomaly year were everybody made abnormal gains in their 40 times.  Obviously I don't have their times at my desk either.

Figurs was the fastest guy at the combines, he's faster than Deon.
I hate it how everyone (media especially) downplays Jordys speed. Maybe it's because he is a big and tall white boy walk-on. It's pretty obvious he has above average speed. Wasn't he a track star in HS? More importantly though, he has great vision and surprising elusiveness, not to mention he catches everthing thrown at him and breaks tackles w/ his 6'3 220 frame. God I love Jordy.
