"You're getting ahead of yourself if you thought shut (Texas) down,” he said. "When Kansas State got the lead, they pinned their ears back and made them one-dimensional.”

That doesn't mean Venables wasn't looking for something to help his own team next week.

"Obviously, there's some things you look at to see what fits what you do,” he said. "But it's not like (Kansas State ) totally dominated them.”
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Venables then continued, "If you want to see a gameplan that can totally dominate someone, look at what they did to us in the 2003 Big 12 Championship game.  That had me throwing up on the sidelines and I didn't even get hit by one of their linebackers."

He talked smack, then realized - "Wait, these guys performed a little "Hammer-time" on my best team, time to back pedal"

Maybe a bit bitter by Venables...but, Kstate as only up by three points late in the third quarter before we let the cat out of the bag.

Just sayin'.

“I wish I could have popped the tape in and seen that,” Venables said, “but I didn’t. Kansas State played well, but those (punt and kickoff) returns were fluke things you’re not going to see every week. You’re naive to believe those things are going to happen.”

Hook and ladders and statue liberty plays are fluky once-in-a-lifetime plays as well.  Totally unheard of in bowl games.

No secret plan

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables said when he played the tape of Kansas State's 41-21 win over Texas, he was hoping to see the Wildcats had come up with a definitive scheme to stop the Longhorns.

"That wasn't the case," Venables said. "When Texas wasn't turning the ball over, they were moving the ball. They had to play catch-up... but you would be getting ahead of yourself if you thought Kansas State shut 'em down."

http://www.star-telegram.com/college_sports/story/254095.html

I bet Brent would just kill himself if they gave up a lot of points to UT this weekend.................

Back when I was at KSU in the mid 90's, there was this assistant coach.  I forget his name, but he was something else.  What a suicidal, womanizing coke-head.  I wonder what ever became of him?

What was the stat they threw up on the screen during the game?  57 non-offensive TD's since 1999?  In 7.3 seasons...yeah, that's not every week, but it's more than every-other week.

Anyway, I found the rest of the original quote:

Quote

They had to play catch-up... but you would be getting ahead of yourself if you thought Kansas State shut 'em down.  The 2003 Big XII championship game--that was a case of Kansas State shutting someone down."

"The 2003 Big XII championship game--that was a case of Kansas State shutting someone down."Venables

OU had more yards from scrimmage than UT did against us last week.

Venables was quoted in the '96 Purple Yearbook as saying Kstate was his home and he bled purple and he could never imagine playing or coaching anywhere else. Just sayin.
