...is talking about Huggins and K-State. It's glorious.

By the way: for whatever reason, I love being able to go out of state and refer to "K-State" and have people know exactly what university I'm referring to.

Oh: I also love getting paid to visit KSUFans.com.

Internship in Austin? Jealous.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Yep, National Instruments. I'm in training for 7 out of the 12 weeks here, too, for whatever project they're going to have me work on for the last 5 weeks. So basically, I'm getting paid (pretty well, if I do say so myself) to learn all this sweet expensive software/hardware (right now: LabVIEW 8). Plus, the atmosphere here is awesome: college banners hanging everywhere, people playing Trashketball in their cubes, no dress code (I'm in flip-flops and jeans at the moment), and occassionally they even bring beer for us while we're on the clock.

Plus, Austin is just a kick-ass city.

Just thinking about being in the same town as Tom Light makes me wet.   :ku:

Yeah, well, I'm sure 98% of the jobs available to CS majors aren't nearly this fun. I just lucked out because I happen to be a personable...something you don't find much of in Nichols Hall.

Unless he moved recently, Tom is from Plano, a suburb of Dallas.  It's a huge mark on a city that I love.

P.S. Just to reiterate, National Instruments is an awesome company. I encourage any EE, CE, CS, or ME students to check them out when searching for an internship/full-time position.

Jobs are great...in the summer time...

Once you get out and realize that's what you're going to do for the REST OF YOUR LIFE...it's not quite so grand.

That being said, there are worse places to be than Austin...that's for sure.

Actually, my guess is a lot of people would love to be in my situation...I find it incredibly boring....

Be here from basically 7:30-4 or 4:30...

No real pressure, boss doesn't micromanage, no time tracking, good pay, excellent benefits, etc..

Just boring as hell.

i live in austin also, 26 years. great city. but i have to say, i have heard noone talking about the cats concerning anything involving any sport. they're certainly not talked about on the 2 sports talk radio stations in town at all. nothing ever in the paper. well, there was mention in the paper and on the radio when huggins was hired, but that's about it. exactly who is everybody kougar? a couple of people at work?.............check out the shoal creek saloon on lamar. good food and a pretty good place to hang. the locals love it. i can steer you to some other cool spots also if you are in search of good food and entertainment............hut's on 6th is one of my favorite's also. later

Five years in Austin for me.  Trust me, you're doing good to find an Austinite that can name three starters from the Longhorn basketball team, much less one willing to talk about basketball at any other school.

To each their own.  I much prefer school.  Work is never a place i will imagine myself "hanging out"...

Why not hang out at work, especially when we get to do it on the clock occasionally?

nancat, I mean everyone at work here. You have to keep in mind that my coworkers are all in the 20-25-year-old range, for the most part. Thanks for the recommendations. We're having no trouble finding entertainment so far.

Translation:  Austin is a very liberal, open-minded city and I finally found some other guys who like to drink white wine.

Seriously, you need to give up the white wine crusade. I mentioned one white wine that I actually enjoyed. I'm a beer man through and through, when it comes down to it.

Speaking of which, I don't share Austinites' love for Shiner Bock. It's okay...nothing more.
