James Franklin did not adjust play calling whatsoever when texas adjusted to take away the short stuff.  Obviously it didn't matter too much because we scored points on special teams in the second and 3rd quarter and then finally started running the ball and throwing to the backs, but it took way too long to adjust.

Wouldn't it seem when teams start pressing our WRs, that there should be opportunities downfield?
Shouldn't we be looking to at some deep routes to take advantage of such opportunities? Stretch the field and keep 'em honest.

I don't think that they felt they needed to do that, risk throwing a pick, risk freeman getting tagged or pressured and rattled into making a mistake.

At some point in time we have to add the deep ball to the arsenal though.

:dancin: :dancin: :dancin: i agree that towards the end of the game we needed to adjust to texas' defensive changes. but at the same time there was no need to risk getting freeman picked and letting momentum swing back to texas. even if we did appear to be owning them, austin is a tough place to go and win. i think momentum was a huge part of our win. if need be, freeman has the arm to go down field and our recievers should be good enough to go up and win some balls. :dancin: :dancin: :dancin: :dancin:

Yeah, I am pretty worried about OCJF, I think that the lack of adjustments could hurt us... Prince is sold on OCJF - I cant bring myself to get on board with him though.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
Franklin will be gone unless Mr. Arthur Brown ends up on campus.

And, as was stated in the other thread, I don't think our OL is good enough to give JF any time on downfield pass plays.

I thought we adjusted somewhat.  Keep in mind, UT didn't go to man after we torched their 4 deep coverage, they went to cover-2.  They jammed our outside recievers and kept the CB in the flats, but the safties were still deep most of the time.  We then started hitting a few more skinny post routes and underneath stuff inside the CBS, but outside the OLBs.  They weren't going to give up the deep ball.

I did like the tweaks in the offense, particularly the 2 back sets out of shotgun.  Nice use of the swing pass to further try to open up the flats.  Also the couple plays with Johnson in the gun inside the 10 gives the Hawks something to think about.  I like that we controled time of possession overall as well, especially with essentually "giving up" 3 offensive possessions with the defensive and return scores.

That's exactly what I think of when I look at the offensive yards for the game.

At what point are we going to stop dissing our O-line?  They've played consistently well this year and we've already faced the two most atheltic defenses we'll face both on the road.  ku's pass rush doesn't scare me in the least they'll have to blitz to get pressure and if they do that hopefully we can burn them.

have they played well bc freeman has been getting rid of the ball on 3 step drops?  or because they really are improved.  I will give them lots of credit against texas in that we ran the ball pretty well when we decided to run it, and pounded it in for our last score.

The 2 backs in shotgun and swing passes were a great adjustmen, I just wish it would have come sooner than later

What I'm worried about if teams start finding tendencies to which way our rollouts are going to come as ku did last year.  The rollout has been a great addition to the offensive schemes and helps out the line tremendously we've been doing it since the CU game and it has worked in every game but the ku game last year.

I really want to beat ku but I"m worried as all hell about them.

Definately a concern, but I think we have more options now than we did last year, and especially as beat up as we were going into ku.  Freeman will not make some of the mistakes he made in that game either.  Plus, I'm sure we've got some things up our sleeve for ku, I have my doubts we spent two weeks only prepping for TU.

I'm really hoping that we can get murphy more involved this week, ku does not have great team speed, hopefully we can utilize him, patton and johnson in space.

Also, to me it seems like when we bring Patton in, we run him inside too much.  We need to get him on the edge in space.
