I read the following just now, which made me think —— So why do I have to live in the universe where Bishop fumbled the fracking ball?

That is indeed bullcrap.  If there were parallel universes, they wouldn't be created everytime something happens.  They would simply already exist.  Duh.  Feel free to quote for truth.

so, if the person is alive in one universe and dead in the other, how would they even be parallel?  If the guy that lived went on to have children, then in the other universe, those children would not exist; therefore, for those children there would be no parallel universe.  I could imagine that from the start of time it could work, but after centuries the universes would grow so far apart that nothing would be similar at all.

I believe the version of time would be parallel. Although time can be manipulated too (fact), these separate universes would follow the same timeline I'm assuming....assuming the theory is true also.

You're forgetting that parallel universes only exist in our minds, among the rapidly-firing (in some cases) synapses. It's kind of like... "Every time a wildcat dies, Michael Bishop gets his wings."
