http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/287263.htmlBonds is looking for a new home in light of Friday’s announcement by the Giants that he won’t be part of their future. And what team has greater need for some mid-lineup sock than the run-starved Royals?
Bonds is 43 and talks of playing one more year. Maybe two.
That’s perfect for the Royals, who clear more than $30 million in payroll off the books after this season. That leaves enough cash to sign Bonds for one year — or even one and an option year — before their young players start claiming a greater portion of the payroll.
Bonds is making $15.8 million this season in base salary with performance bonuses likely to push the final total to $20 million. He has 28 homers this season in 125 games with a .483 on-base percentage.
