We would need Ian and Rob to have big games to shut down that offense.

An average game from those two should be enough.

QFT

 A great game won't be enough...you guys shouldn't even be in the same division we are.

Keller turns into a five year old girl with the slightest hint of pressure.  And while nub's o-line is good, they're not good enough to consistantly keep our boys out of the backfield.  AU's King Dunlap and some stud 5 star (I know how important stars are to ya) couldn't do it.  Neither will nub.
We all know how lethal that AU offense is. Just ask uSF. Let me guess, USF's D is salty, right?

Did I mention AU's offense as a whole? No.  I simply stated that AU's o-line showed more talent than NU's.

I love threads like this, when other teams make fun of you for WINNING.  As Jim Rome says, make all the points and excuses you want, but the final answer is... Scoreboard.

I don't care if we win the rest of our games by 1 point each and we look like a High School team... as long as we win.

NU moved up in both polls after the win.  I think winning all your games by 1 pt would get you ranked very, very high at years end.  Remember that Ohio state national championship team?  Close games almost every damn week.

That said I do think NU played a sloppy game and of course I'm never happy with that.  But ultimately, we won.  At the end of the year, NO ONE cares how close the game was.  It just shows up as a W.

Take two teams.  One of them No. 15, the other No. 16.  Both of them playing very similar opponents, who aren't in the top 25, on the same day.  The #16 team wins by 17 points.  The #15 team wins, but only by 1 point.  Where do they stand in the polls come Monday??

You can't tell me that voters don't in some way base their votes on style/margin of victory.

Of course they do, that's just one game.  But if a team continually wins by 1 point over the season and remains undefeated, they WILL be ranked very high, and deservedly so.  That was the point, that W in the end is what matters.

Take the NU-TX game as an example last year.  NU fell in the polls after the loss, and Texas (i think) even climbed.  It was obvious how close they came to losing, in the end, they didn't.  They got the W.

I'm all for seeing positives in a loss.  I thought my team played very well against AU and TX last year and those games gave me hope.  But in terms of rankings, W is what ultimately matters.

OSU scored 410 points and only gave up 183.

Six of their games were won by 2 or more TDs, and five were by 3 or more TDs.

I would agree with you any other year, but the way this year is going it is hard to. Take Ohio St. last week. They played less then a stellar game against Akron and move up to the #10 spot. Also, Wisky. They barely pulled out a W against UNLV?! And they are still top 10 material. Hell, Auburn is ranked ahead of a team that beat them just last week! It's seems more and more that even the polls are taking the "a win is a win" side. TAMU gets taken to triple over time against Fresno St. and they move up a few spots. And lastly, Hawaii, almost crap down their leg against la Tech and are still are ranked in the top 25. This year is definitely different when it comes to wins, thats for sure. OU being the exception

OK, many close games, not all.

Either way, what's the point?  You all know it's the W that matters.  Why did Snyder schedule the non-con the way he did (I thought it was/is a great strategy to build a team) if it isn't W's that matter?  In the end, wins matter, that's it, and you know it.

I am pretty sure if we won all the rest our games by one, including against USC, Texas, and the Big 12 Championship... I am pretty sure we would be playing for the National Title and win that by 1. :D

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that NU will not win the rest of their games by one point.  Therefore, for the love of God, stop talking about it.  Thanks.

no reason to not go for it.  our defense had allowed just one score in the 34rd and no points in the 4th.  they were at the 40 yard line.  had they punted and got a touchback it comes out ot the 20 anyway.  the odds were better at getting 2 yards then wake driving distancce enough to get a fg.  and the other poster was right, the no call holding was payback for not giving us the pick the play earlier.

So now we've finally figured out the '98 facemask....it was a "payback" for all the crap calls earlier in the game.....

"Sometime afterward, maybe when I saw my fingers were about broken from being entangled in his facemask, it led me to believe it was a facemask,'' Ochs said. "Everybody gripes and moans about it, which I understand because it was at a very crucial time of the game, but there's a lot of penalties that aren't called.

"I have a feeling it all works out. It worked out for me that day. I'd still be grumpy about that deal if it had been called.''

That won't happen with Slash at the helm.
