With our buddies from the east trumpeting a Central Michigan team they're sure will win not only the MAC but should make a BCS bowl, let's examine last year's solid 10-4 run that CMU had:
BC- Lost 31-24. This isn't a bad score.....but what was BMW saying about CU going into UGA last year?
Michigan- Lost 41-17
Akron W- 24-21...that's right....a 5-7 MAC team..win by 3 points
Eastern Michigan...24-17 over a 1-11 MAC team LOL
Kentucky-probably their shining moment...only lost by 9.
Toledo- 42-20....against a 5-7 MAC team
Ball St...18-7...I'm sensing a theme here....against a 5-7 MAC team
Bowling Green...a 17 point win not too shabby....versus a 4-8 MAC team
Good 42-26 win over Temple....a team that went 1-11 last year.
Western Michigan....revised shining moment....31-7 win. Western Michigan, however, still a MAC team that lost 5 games.
N. Illinois....lost by 19 points......to a team that lost 6 games in '06
Buffalo......the Chippewas let a 2-10 team score 28 points on them. Did score 55, however.
Ohio...beat a solid MAC team by 21 points.
Bowl Game-Beat powerhouse Middle Tennessee State by 17 points.
So 3 of ten wins accumulated by CMU last year came against teams that went on to win 2 or less games last year (actually, 2 of three only won once!)? Furthermore, 4 of the remaining 7 won only 5 games or less on MAC schedules. This leaves 3 wins over Ohio (solid team), Middle Tenn. St (meh), and Western Mich (meh). Call those three games good, solid wins.
Oh, and they also need to replace 4 players they lost to the NFL. On a MAC team. That should be simple.
Time to head to the lofflehouse!
