Junior tailback Brad Lester's status for Auburn's season-opener against Kansas State on Saturday is uncertain.

Lester, Auburn's leading returning rusher, is listed No. 1 on the depth chart, but the academic issues that led to his being suspended for the Cotton Bowl could also result in his suspension for Saturday night's game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

A final decision is not expected before Thursday at the earliest. It could be Saturday before Lester or his coaches know if he will be available.

Asked about Lester at his weekly press conference, Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said, "To this point, he's playing. We'll talk about it as we go along. The running back position is going to be running back by committee like it has been over the years."

Asked if Lester's status could change, Tuberville said, "Well, it could. Anything could change."

If Lester does not play, the starting role will probably fall to sophomore Ben Tate. Redshirt freshman Mario Fannin and senior Carl Stewart, the starting fullback, are also expected to get time at tailback.

Lester rushed for 523 yards on 104 carries in 12 games last season. He rushed for a team-high nine touchdowns.

unrelated but noteworthy....(sorry if already posted)

Auburn tackle Dunlap arrested for not paying ticket
Posted by Evan Woodbery, Sports Reporter August 28, 2007 6:24 PM
AUBURN - Senior offensive tackle King Dunlap was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor warrant .

The 6-8, 312-pound lineman was arrested at 1:25 p.m. on Opelika Road, not far from campus, according to an Auburn police report viewed by the Press-Register.

An Auburn court clerk said the warrant was issued Aug. 22 after Dunlap neglected to pay a speeding ticket.

Dunlap is the lone returning starter on Auburn's offensive line, and his status is unlikely to be affected by the arrest.

Dunlap was requested by reporters on Sunday and Tuesday, but did not show up to the media room.

Our resident racist, "War Eagle!" informed us of this.  Kinda gives you a glimmer of hope, huh?
