When I first heard about Auburn's silly little cheer "WAR EAGLE!" I thought it harmless, nonsensical blabber on par with the standard linguistic abilities of your average Southerner.  Folks, let me be the first to tell you, there is evil, rotten, anti-American, racist, filthy, Southern, dirtbag, slave-owning rhetoric that is not only pertinent to the creation of this decidedly sinister cheer, but rather is precisely THE CAUSE FOR ITS existence.  I am reticent to even recount the full horrors contained in this most impolite and savage tale of "Southern charm" but I will here for the benefit of everyone's understanding the true depth's of depravity that fill the hearts and minds of our enemies in the Southland.  LEST WE FORGET AND THEY ATTEMPT TO RISE AGAIN!  NAY!  WE WILL FOREVER LEAVE THE CONFEDERACY UNDER THE HEEL OF PROPER DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES ESPOUSED BY THE GENTLE NORTHERN MERCHANT!

The sordid tale of "War Eagle" is thus quoted by our heavenly BIBLE, ESPN'S College Football Encyclopedia:

"War Eagle" is the Auburn battle cry, equivalent to "Roll Tide at Alabama.  There are no "war eagles" [perhaps using the plural will further infuriate? Ed.].  The cry is singular and it does not refer to the players but to a legend involving a wounded Confederate [is it not always the Southern, white, victim? Ed.] who found himself left for dead with nothing for company but an injured baby eagle.  The soldier lived and recovered with the eagle.  The man went on to teach at Auburn.  At the first Georgia-Auburn game, in 1892, the eagle was among the spectators and, when Auburn scored, it took off and soared over the field.  The Auburn fans [all white until 1964!!] saw this and began to shout, "War Eagle."

Yeah, kinda hits home... my wife is Mexican and here in WV and we have had one or two people give the sideways glance while we are walking with the kiddos in public. Means a lot. You just have to get used to it and hope that kids dont harass your kids in school.
