I'm sure it's not 100% accurate, it's just a rule of thumb for the average viewer.  I'd read it as saying that you'll notice the difference between 720p and 1080p starting at about an 8-9' viewing distance but of course everyone's MMV.  Personally I'd spring for 1080p these days no matter what, might as well be as future-proof as possible if you're already spending a bunch of $$$.

what are some cheep hdtv's and over 40 inches?  good ones prefrebaly

This guy is pretty respected, from what I've been reading.  He seems to know his stuff:

http://hdguru.com/?p=129

I thought this was interesting as well:

Quote
On additional note: If you like to watch action movies and sports, the HD Guru has examined motion resolution of microdisplay rear projector versus flat panel LVDs. These tests determine how much detail you will see when there is action on the screen such as a football player running down the field. You may be surprised to learn all the microdisplay rear projectors tested had better motion resolution than any tested 2007 LCD flat panel television. .

Go to www.slickdeals.net and do a search in the forums, or keep an eye out on the main page.  You can find amazing deals if you have some patience.  My buddy bought a 47" Samsung plasma (brand new) a few months ago, and only paid $1100.  The deals on the site don't last long, so keep a sharp eye out.  Happy hunting.

Also, I own an Olevia 37" LCD and am very pleased with it.  I also own a 60" Toshiba , both purchased from deals on that website.

Thanks for the link.

Hmmm...42 inch vizio 1080p for 892.50 and free pickup from sears...

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05771947000P?pid=05771947000&sid=I0084400010000100383&aff=Y

Does contrast ratio make a huge difference?  The 1080p vizio is 1500:1, most of the samsungs are at least triple that.

I saw a 50" Sony LCD projection for $900 at a marketplace Dillons in Wichita yesterday.  Those were going for $1500 not 6 months ago.

It seems like it's worth the risk.  892.50?  I'm a poor college student.

Exactly. Buy the warranty through wherever you buy it and they'll replace it. I'd tap that Vizio, stunner.

No, but if you pay it off on time it will improve your credit.  You should probably shoot for having 2 or 3 credit cards (visa or mastercard not revolving credit like Sears) in good standing when you leave college as this will substantially boost your credit.  If you don't have any credit history you will have a hard time getting loans.  The Sears card is a revolving line of credit and doesn't hurt to have it if you pay it off on time.

Look into a Chase Rewards card. Often times, they will have a cash bonus of $150 or something similar.

How are you in college with no credit card?  The key is to get a bunch now and max them out and worry about paying down the balance under the crippling interest rates later....THE KEY.  But, seriously, you should get one or two but just make sure you have no annual fees.

The higher the contrast ratio of the screen, the better the color intensity on the LCD or Plasma.  You get away with anything 800:1 and up and still have a great picture.  Plasma's contrast ratios will be in the 10,000 and up range.  But you are comparing apples to oranges there.  This is something that manufactures really try and promote, but it's not as important as other features on LCDs.

Also, Stunner, search the forums on the site for credit cards.  There is a thread that lists the best credit cards available and which ones have the best deals going on.  No interest, free money, rewards, etc.  It's always updated too.  The guys will also mention who to stay away from and relay some of their experiences to others.

Why in the hell are you worried about the price then?  Just charge a Pioneer 6010 on mommy's card and let her take care of it.  Cha-ching!

So I assume 7000:1 is plenty for contrast ratio.

So I think I might try and get this one...good buy?  I know it's 720p, but it's Samsung, so you know it's good.  Good price too, I can pick it up in OP and save money on shipping.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.
