The 3-4 and zone blocking schemes of Prince will be the benchmarks of a long, successful career at Kansas State.

Feel free to add to this substance dripping post! :blank:

You can't be racist and like basketball.
Teams won't be used to seeing the 3-4, and their preparation could be adversely affected.

Plus, Defensive Coordinator Tim Tibesar had the nation's top rated defense at NCAA Division II the University of North Dakota.  I'm confident Coach "Tibs" will get it done.

every coach has seen the 3-4 and knows how to attack it.  Anybody truly believe Callahan didn't see just a few 3-4's in the NFL as OC and HC?

The difference is the players.  It's different for them in that they don't see it as often.  Just about every defense has 3-4 packages for 3rd & long situations...and offenses see that.  But it's when other down & distance situations appear it's more unusual.

nu will see the 3-4 the first game of the year.  that is what nevada runs.   I don't have the heart to tell ksu fans that they aren't running something as foreign conceptually as they think they are.  Better to let the season explode in their face then to spoil it now

USC ran a ton of 3-4 last year.  I watched their last 3 games vs. Cal, UCLA, and Michigan and I don't recall them running a 4-3.  Cushing it just a stand up DE basically...same thing we will prolly be doing w/ Campbell.

So, yes, Nebraska will see plenty of it before we go to Lincoln.  Mizzou will see it in their sleep.  OU went 3-4 all game long on them last year in Columbia and that worked so well me thinks they might try it again in Norman.

KSU is tough to predict this year because Prince is so new and they were all over the map last year. His first two recruiting classes definitely had many solid players and were fine overall. I think he is getting off track with his current class, however, and if that continues I think he is going to have serious problems eventually filling holes. Recruiting problems don't show up suddenly; the bleeding is slow (see Frank Solich).

I think the 3-4 could work well for him, especially with the players he has. I also think KSU could shock Auburn early.

The 3-4 is perfect when you have 3 . . . wait . . . 2 (now) D-linemen and your best one was moved to OLB, where I hear he is dominating.

As long as it isn't a pass play.

Is that serious, enough?

DL = DE and DT
More than 2 DT's on the roster too.

thanks for your concern.

Seriously, I think it's too soon to poo poo on his current recruiting class. Snyder did more with less than any Big12 coach I can think of and I think Prince can do the same. Sad as it may be, it is going to be hard to get the 4 and 5 * guys to come unless we get back to the 9-10 win seasons. Kind of a catch 22.

As far as his current class, you're right, it is too early. I'm guessing. We'll have to wait until they hit the field, as always.

The Catch 22 is a great description. I hadn't thought of it like that, but it's true. When you are a new coach you have to have good players to win, but to get good players you have to show them you can win.  :nutkick:

OK, S. Parker is getting to deep for me.  Deep what?  I don't know, but it is getting deep.

Hatter, can you repeat your comparison of K-State to OU and USC here?  It was outstanding on The Phog.   :loly:

I wish I shared your outlook.  I think there is a high likelyhood that the offense won't score.

"I think it's too soon to poo poo on his current recruiting class. Snyder did more with less than any Big12 "

different era.  snyder recruited alot of jucos so his recruiting rankings suffered because of that.  He also recruited players on offense that were not always highly sought after because he was recruiting for a different system, a system few teams ran, so once again his rankings suffered.  But that aint the prince era is it?  nfl schemes on both sides of the ball.  well, guess what?  that means you need to recruit the same pro type players that 70 other teams want. of all the teams that run pro style offenses there aren't to many good ones that don't consistantly sign top 20 classes.

what prince is bringing in wont get you that far

Auburn's defense is tough. I think you'll score, but it will be tough to put up many points. They just don't make a lot of mistakes.

Speaking of offense, do you think we'll run a lot of stretch plays with zone blocking @ Auburn??  I also really hope the coaches wear Black Shirts, it's slimming and intimidating.
