this deal sucks ass for me.  unless whoever said the free internetcasts will continue was correct.  but, like rusty, i doubt that.
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Sirius has internet radio for $2.99 per month but I don't know if it includes sports.

I still don't want to pay.

I'd only use it for listening to the games.  I don't know anything about sirius -- is it a digital thing where you can pause and rewind, or is it just radio?  Does it do anything that an internet broadcast doesn't?

Certain units (Stiletto) have "tivo-like" timeshifting functionality and a few GB to record favorites.  As for content, there are the commercial-free music channels, and a variety of news/sports/comedy/talk radio options.  (Channel list here.)  Sirius exclusives include Howard Stern, NFL radio broadcasts (home and away) for every game, a bunch of college sports teams, NBA games, and Nascar, if you're a redneck.

Really, the key benefit over internet broadcast would be mobility, assuming you have a unit that isn't built into your car.  That is probably a bigger deal to people with actual commutes than it is to college students or small town residents.

If you are a subscriber with a radio, the standard internet stream is free.  The $2.99 is for a CD-quality stream.  If you have no radio, they're going to charge you $12.99/mo. for the quality stream.   :yuck:  Here is the list of internet-streamed channels

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Looking again at the list of internet channels, it doesn't look like they offer the ones they typically use for live game broadcasts (118ish-139ish).  I can't be sure until they release a schedule, but I would take this as a sign that the Yahoo feeds might continue.

    Gettin' angried up!!!
1)  I think maybe konofo has some sort of stake in Sirius.  Are you a stockhold, or do you sell the hardware?
  :)
2)  I'd bet, even if the free yahoo webcasts aren't available anymore, that you can still listen on a stations website.  (ie-810, etc)  I listen to several webcasts on a daily basis and all of the shows offer a webstream, through their websites, that you have to pay to listen to.  However, if you log directly on to the station's website itself, you can listen to any of their programming.  This deal doesn't mean that the games won't be aired on traditional radio, but that Sirius will the rights to satellite airings.

    KSU Super Fan

Yeah, if your sitting in front of a computer, but what if your traveling?

That's a very small percentage of listeners, I'm sure.  Most people on vacation probably wouldn't listen to the game anyway, and most frequent business travelers would have internet access.  Heck, most of those people would have to drive to use Sirius.

I couldn't count the number of gamedays where I've been listening at my computer and wanted to go get some food, or run an errand, or whatever.  I would have to put it off until after the game, or try to rush it in over halftime, or just miss a big chunk of the game.  For me, this is great news.  For everyone else, I don't give a sh*t.  Thank you.

kono

And now you have to sit in your car because it won't be free over yahoo. See the difference? Give a sh*t about that, waks.

Sucks even worse because I just bought XM because they have the contract with the Big XII for football and basketball.  One of the main reasons I took the plunge.  Now I'm looking at 6 months of this thing not being able to get the games while I'm on the road.  Or, hopefully the merger goes through.

Weiser sucks!!!!!!!

To anyone familiar with satellite radio:  Is there a time delay in the sound?  Do we have a better shot at using SR as a means to get sound for a game on a sports bar TV?
Internet radio has a considerable delay that is very annoying.  Last season the play calling was as much as 30 to 40 seconds off of live TV.

Yea, there's a pretty good lag in Sat. radio.  Several seconds worth.

I'm kind of split on this deal.  I like having the Cats on Sirius because I already subscribe to the service and I spwend significant amounts of time in the car during some games.

I dislike it because it puts Wyatt out there for everybody to hear.  Ugh.

It's good to be good again!
So will 810 still broadcast the games on the net.

Doubtful.

All you guys are just funny and ignorant. The only thing that changes is the KSU picked up a new affiliate, Sirius Satellite Radio. It will not effect what has worked in the past as in Internet access through yahoo for the games. The only rights given away were Satellite radio rights.

I've seen this comment posted on other boards as well but no links to any "official" source.  Have you seen a link?

William.
I can take several seconds and it might even be close to the live TV broadcast lag.  what is unacceptable is the 30-40 seconds on the internet.
I'm with you on Wyatt but it is better than NO sound.  The sports bars around here will only do sound for the big game that draws the biggest crowd.  It's the price we pay for living out of Kansas!

It is behind regular radio by a few seconds.
