5 simple yards and College Football will never be the same.  Ever.  How can you argue with this?  Well, first you have to be as frickin' smart as Prince to understand it.

(I don't make this stuff up . . . I just post it.)

***********************

"You're going to see a short field to defend much more
often," Prince said. "The defensive coach is going to
have to decide early on whether to pressure to knock
(the opposing offense) back on the other side.
Otherwise you're looking at a plus territory that pins
you down. Even without much production at all
offensively you could have another team's offense
pinned down inside the 10 or five-yard line just by
virtue of the fact that the first team kicked off at
the 30. There are some things there that if there is a
clock stoppage and they go to a TV timeout and come
back, how that clock restarts or how you put that ball
back into play could have a factor on how complex
people are on that initial play, so that could aid the
defense if that forces teams to be more simplistic,"
Prince said.

"If you've got a guy who can kick the
ball into the end zone and force a TV timeout, coming
out of the TV timeout the clock is at only 15 seconds.
Now the offense has been doubly penalized and the
defensive doubly-aided, however it is. If that ball
doesn't reach the end zone and they can bring it out,
now you're going to see it go the other way. It's
going to dramatically affect the game. I know the
thought is about how to reduce the overall time of the
game to three hours. But it's going to have a
far-reaching impact."

I hope Mangino has figured this out.   :ohno:

you're correct.  Prince logged on for you and did a "Ron Prince" search before you knew what happened.

By the lack of meaningful responses, I guess it is safe to assume Prince was way over your heads on this one?

No, it's completely understood the new rules in dealing with a longer kickoff and clock management.

Not that hard of a read.   Your ku education seems to have hurt you in your post.

I agree with what Prince is saying. I haven't sat down and thought about the details like he has, but I do think this is going to have a bigger impact on the game than they are intending.

I honestly wish they would just quit altering rules. The game is fine the way it is.

    Gettin' angried up!!!
These "rivals" of ours keep making themsleves look so intelligent lately.  I love when numerous ku fans laud their educations in mistake filled paragraphs, and another sends us an appearantly unintelligible quote, only to find out he is the only one who doesn't understand it.  Harvard of the plains my ass.  It's like I keep telling you ku fans:  If you spent less time shacking up with dudes, you would have to spend less time in line getting your HIV tests.  Less time in line means more time in the classroom.  More time in the classroom would lead to a better understanding of the English language.  And last, but not least, a better command of the English language would lead to you guys not &@#%ing up my order at McDonalds so damn much.  I said no damn pickles JayHox, and if you don't give some new fries I'm coming inside and telling your manager!

I have an idea to shorten the games....less commercials.  We really don't need to have a commercial break, then a kickoff, then another commercial break.  Also, we don't need to have commercials, then come back from commercials to tell us the score, then more commercials.  Let's see, if there are fewer commercials, the TV package is worth less, so the schools have less money...across the board.  So, they can throw a little less at coaches, and the new video screens can only be the size of a large movie theater screen...but the game we all love stays the same.   I could live with that.

Shouldn't you be concerned that Mangino isn't analyzing the game like this?

Well, that G-Factor is pretty cool.  I wonder how high our other "G-Factor" is?  MGMW?
That's what I'm hoping.  MGMW.

But hey.  Seriously, ku is a good school.  It's no Wayne State University, but...you know...still a good school.

Oh, I understand it.  I understand that you need a good kicker, more reliable coverage, and an offense that can snap the ball a little quicker.

There, I did it is one sentence yet Prince thinks he is going to reinvent field position.

No.  Ron Prince just likes to fill interviews with comments that are far longer than they actually need to be so that he can keep the interviewer from asking any questions that reveal things about his football team.  Also, it makes people like you think that he's actually this cheesy and inefficient behind closed doors.  Ron Prince is your psychological master.
