here w/ old slick.

Seriously...he's running through large holes(TClayton can do that)...he does occasionally make a defender miss but break tackles?  One time he gets pinballed vs. OSU where one defender hits him one way and the other defender hits him to keep him up but I don't see him breaking tackles.  Unless "breaking a tackle" is when he has a full head of steam and some defender can't quite get there and dives to get a fingernail on him or something.

And we have Leon Patton running through, over defenders...that tight rope w/ bodies all over him down in Lawrence....Lucky wants his autograph for that type of stuff.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=mED2vQFOaMA

Nubb...running through large holes does not equal a good running back.  This is why I'm not impressed to hear about Jonas whoever.

Say, it's the signature Manhatter move of continuing discussion from an existing thread in a brand new thread that I heard about on this very board not all that long ago.  It's better than I thought it would be!

My favorite highlight video from last year.  I dont want to get into a pissing contest, but I personally would take the NU backs last year, this year, and next year.  But were all happy with what we have ... so it doesnt matter.

Brandon Jackson is a badass.  I think he's going to be an outstanding pro.  He's not a burner but amazing balance, vision, running instincts, leg drive...catches the ball well out of the backfield.  He had some great open field runs last year.  I realize the multiple back system is well in effect but he should have had the rock more last year rather than give Wilson and Glenn more touches.

Glenn was hurt last year, correct?  I remember thinking that Jackson and Glenn were your top two running backs but Glenn just didn't log the carries and I think I saw something about him being injured last year.

It takes two years for a RB to be completely comfortable in this offense. Lucky has overcome some personal issues and is not even the same kid he was a year ago. He'll be in the NFL next year at this time just like Jackson. Patton has no future anywhere close to the league. He's a scrawny little midget. He sure had a helluva game against Nebraska last year. I think he got 3 or 4 yards.

BTW, what did you do with Kyle Williams' jockstrap? Dude got taken for a ride last year.

That was pretty weak Maxell.  RB is the most natural, instinctive position on the field.  The only thing they would need to acclimate to offensively is becoming a good blocker or maybe learning to read defenses in passing situations.

Good stuff about Patton being "scrawny"..if 190lbs on 5-7 is "scrawny" then what is buff?  Ever looked at the kids legs?  Lucky prays every night the good lord will bless him w/ Patton's leg drive and balance.

Jackson was a great back, and i wish we had him back, but thats life.

Glenn had a foot problem, but is apparently back and ready for fall camp.  I will take some heat for this, but he was my favorite back last year and my favorite this year as well.  I love what Lucky can do as well, but I watched the pair at the spring game two years ago, and ever since then Glenn is my favorite.  Its nice to have two backs with different skill sets though.  Glenn for the tough between the tackle yards and Lucky for the receptions, and runs to the outside.

I expect that Castille and Mendoza will both see some playing time this year.  My feeling is that Castille will be too good to keep off the field and will be getting a fair amount of carries by the middle of the year (if he can pick up the blocking schemes).  Mendoza will probably be returning Kicks or punts and may see some time as a split end as well.

I will be honest and say that i think Leon Patten is a fine looking back.  If he stays healthy, he may have big things ahead of him.  Your OL on the other hand... well i dont know what to think about them yet.  Ill reserve judgement until the season starts.

We don't know what to make of the tackle positions.  We'll be fine at guard and we have a good center.  The biggest issue I see will be Stringer's health at RT.  If he's okay then I'm very comfortable about the right side.

LT will be a circus.  And that is not good.

There is a lot of talk that we could very well see Bedore move to guard and Viers to center if Viers is ready and has added some bulk...that move would be to get the best 5 on the field ASAP.  They really like Viers but he's light in the britches and didn't move to OL until last spring.  Not a good thing if you ask me.

When I saw Glenn's highlight video after he committed I told the corn fans he was very underrated.  Thought he would turn out to be a good one.  While Lucky is more a speed back to make people miss Glenn is your workhorse type.  I was under the impression Castille would be a fullback?

I doubt that Castille will ever play FB.  We really don't use a "traditional" FB much now.  On occasion we do, but its an H back more often than not.

Castille is a pure RB.  He is huge, but still fast.  If you are curious, check out some of his videos on rivals.  He looks very impressive to me anyway.  not an ankle breaker like mendoza, but he will just run over people.  Lots of guys on campus who have seen him have been very impressed with how ripped he is, but fans will say anything... Coach Callahan did say that Castille is the biggest RB he has ever seen at any level.  Those words have me pretty excited for the future!

Patton excelled as a true freshman in the WCO.

How big is he?  Callahan had some big S.O.B's running the ball in Oakland so I'm a bit skeptical of that statement about a true freshman.

And despite that "crappy" oline still went for 6.1 ypc. Sigh...
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Castille is 250. Callahan said he reminds him physically of Zack Crockett.

Scrawny?

Does 5'7" make him scrawny, Maxell? It didn't make your porkchop. And trust me, when it's all said and done LP will be 10x the RB that Ross was.

I don't really want to make this thread about Castille... but if your interested in learning a little more about him, just check out his videos on Rivals or scout.  Im not saying he is a sure thing to star next year, but IMO, he is the most promising back we have (including Johas Gray now).  I have a very good feeling about this one.

as far as Marlon Lucky goes, i expect big improvement from him this year.  He won't be sharing carries with BJ anymore.  Glenn will get his share and the freshman will get to show what they have, but marlon will more than likely be the man.  He has also become much happier in Lincoln over the summer.  I don't know what happened, but the newspapers have run a few stories about the change in his attitude lately.  He was homesick, but apparently everything has just "sunk in" lately.  He had a pretty good season last year, but he will be better this year.  The biggest reason will the the OL though.  They are much improved from last year IMO.  If Keller has figured out this offense (i am not promising that he has), our O will be very potent.

Castille will be used situationally this year, just as BJ and Lucky were as freshmen. The offense is too complicated to learn in a short amount of time. He'll be the short yardage and goal line back and be given a handful of other plays.

yikes, I had no idea the kid was 250.  They might want to do some performance enhancing drug tests on a kid that big at that age.

I remember Callahan had Crockett, Wheatley, and Ritchie in Oakland and that is why I had skepticism about that comment.  But at 250?

I think this goes back to your ongoing coaching issues fwiw

camp starts next week, so we should get some good pictures and video of Castille at practice.

I was somewhat sceptical at first too, but loads of people have commented on how he looks right now.  posters on our board have classes with him this semester, and they have been very reliable in the past, so i have no reason to doubt it.
