I was fine with going with DE Tamba with the first pick, but I don't like how we did not get a cover CB with either of the first 2 picks.  The safety from Purdue is big and a big hitter, but the Chiefs have more issues with CB than S.

No one on the Chiefs, outside of Surtain, is starting CB material.

It would be nice to see them trade for Ty Law, but since it has not happened yet, I am not holding my breath.

I am OK with the Croyle pick.  They have no 4th round pick, so at best they get a CB or WR in round 5.

I'm not high on the 2nd round pick, but I love the DE and QB picks.  I think our weak secondary is caused by a lack of a good pass rush, and I think Tamba Hali can help with that.

I agree Saul.  KC was 27th in sacks last year.  I like that Hali has a big time motor.

There were a few good corners there in the 2nd round. Youboty (OSU) and Marshall (Fresno) were still on the board when KC picked 54th.  Those 2 corners were projected to go late 1st or early 2nd and both were top 30 picks on Kiper's board.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

Our secondary was weak because it was (is?) filled with sucky players, minus Surtain.

Surtain, Battle and the guy we got from Denver are the only CBs on the roster aren't they?  I did a backflip the day we cut Dex and EW, but even those two would be better than Julian Battle and a 5th round draft pick.

I was slightly skeptical about using the first round pick on a DE, and from what I've read there were some more highly rated DEs available there, but I tend to default to Herm Edwards and Gunther Cunningham on a question of defensive strategy so I let that slide.  If Herm thinks he's good in pads, despite poor combine performances, I trust him.  What bothered me was the S.  Sure he's a hard-hitter, but we already have pro-bowl safeties in Sammy Knight, Greg Wesley and Jerome Woods.  I also wouldn't have been upset with Santonio Holmes at that pick instead of the DE, but obviously we need some serious defensive help.

I wanted the Chiefs to draft a QB, possibly even in the first round if someone like Cutler fell that far.  Green has at most two good years left and if he gets injured at some point we are SCREWED.  Croyle seems to be a skilled guy, but his injury history was concerning to me.  We''ll see, obviously they believe he's healthy and I have no reason not to believe his injuries are behind him.

I was glad to see we got another WR that was long on skill and short on attitude.  He can join Snoop Minnis and Sly Morris on the practice squad.

All in all, Carl Peterson continues to amaze me on draft day.  The best thing we got out of this draft may have been Herm Edwards.

    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.
