Prince obviously has no idea how to cultivate talent.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

It's not an exception.

It's about coaching.   Ask John McGraw.

Yes, because a 3 star is more likely to be a top 5 pick than a four or five star.

So let me guess, you're basing your contention that this guy is an exception?

I want to hear your explanationi of Heath Miller.

Thanks. 3>2...and they award more 3 and 2 star players than 4 and 5 star players.

"and they award more 3 and 2 star players than 4 and 5 star players."

Who is they, and what are their credentials?  Every coach gets hired by having to show a resume or results.  What makes these rankers the expert they are, in your mind?

Recruiting services.

Fausto's Recruiting Service, founded April 29, 2006, ranks all of Kansas State's current commitments as 12 star recruits.  mjrod, you want to start your own recruiting service?

They've been proven to show a good relationship between high recruiting rankings, and success on the field.

You need to go retake your Stats class:

Chance of 5 star being taken is 2/5 = 40%
Chance of 3 star being taken is 2/5 =40%
Chance of 4 star being taken is 1/5 = 20%

Last time I checked 40% = 40%

This isn't the issue.

The issue is that any player can be developed to achieve his potential, and a lot of the times, the rankings are wrong.    The players ability to play and compete at a level is not easily determined by simply looking at stars.

Recruiting services evaluate on general terms, and coaches evaluate on specifics, many things that cannot be evaluated by recruiting services.   This is the catch that people who place so much emphasis on stars get caught up with.  You can easily state "More stars = more success" with the assumption that the coach knows what he's doing.  That isn't the case.  Great Coaches take what they get and mold their teams into success with all kinds of talent.

There is no doubt there is plenty of talent, but if you look at the class of 2001, KSU's best recruiting class, it was essentially, a dud.   History shows that coaching has a much greater impact on the success of a team than just talent alone.

When looking at this *stars* was 2001 actually better than 1999's class?  I think clearly the '99 class was the best ever!

As for fff's service...I see he uses a pretty easy formula toward ranking players....that being if they commit to K-State they are horrible.

Well, you know fatty.   His idea of a what a good recruit is this:

Must have lots of stars.  (Oh wait, they haven't ranked anyone yet..)

If not stars, must have lots of offers from Top D-1 schools.  (Ah, yes.. schools are still looking and evaluating talent.)  In his mind, KSU is screwing up because we should be letting the other schools make the offer, find out who they are, then we offer them.

His rationale is simple.   We are last in the Big 12 north and we REALLY need to start recruiting ONLY 3-4-5 stars.   Because so many local kids have committed, it's clear Kansas and Missouri cannot produce talent, we really need to go out and find it in Texas, Florida, etc.

Sadly, the game of football has eluded him.  It's incredibly entertaining how silly he really sounds when it comes to making this kind of stuff up.   There is no guarantee that a kid that comes to KSU will turn into a star, much less make KSU a contender.   How did KSU get to be a contender in late 90's and a Big 12 Champion?  Probably, my guess is, we beat out Texas, OU, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and USC for Bishop, Newman, Sproles, Beasley, Simoneau, Lecky, Eby..etc..etc..etc.

Higher rated recruits=better teams
And, until last year, Mack Brown was known for bringing top notch recruiting classes to Texas/NC and never really being a factor in the NC chase.  It was just last year that he was being lampooned as an after thought to Oklahoma in his half of the conference.

eventually someone will do an analysis of star ratings and who ends up an all american or in the nfl draft.  it seems like these recruiting services get a free pass right now with everything they do.  hell, i'd pay to know whether what they do is really all that accurate.

Yeah...he was only 50-10 before this past year.

I would just hate to have UT success during the period of 1998-2004  :blank:

He is certainly doing a great job at Texas, that was never in doubt.  My point is Texas was consistantly in the top five in the recruiting rankings every year and were watching teams with "inferior" recruiting classes play in the BCS bowls after they played in their annual Cotton Bowl or Holiday Bowl matchup with a third or fourth place team from another conference.  I have to assume coaching had something to do with this, as Brown beat the Stoops boys in the Rivals rankings year in, year out; but couldn't buy a win in Dallas.
