and about the talent Callahan inherited from Solich.

Checking the boxscore from that night...a list of the defensive players lining up for the corn and their RD-Pick in the NFL draft. (year drafted)

Adam Carriker 1-13 (2007)
Fabian Washington 1-23 (2005)
Barrett Ruud 2-36 (2005)
Josh Bullocks 2-40 (2005)
Daniel Bullocks 2-40 (2006)
Stewart Bradley 3-87 (2007)
Jay Moore 4-104 (2007)
LeKevin Smith 6-206 (2006)
Titus Adams 7-220 (2006)

The truth of it is...Cosgrove had more talent on defense when he arrived than he does now.  It's hard to beat having a defense w/ 5 draft picks in the first 2 rounds...Florida didn't even have that this past season.

These are the facts and they are indisputable.

    Hey, basketball!!!
LOL, looking at what Prince was given talent wise compared to Callahan in their first seasons.....not even comparable..

And then you look at their records in their 1st years....

Prince: 7-6 (4-4)

HCBC: 5-6 (3-5)

While looking at the defensive side of the ball for players drafted in both Prince & HCBC first years:

Prince: 1 player drafted on defense (7th round)

HCBC: 3 players drafted (1st & two 2nd round picks) not to mention 9/11 players drafted from that D in the years to come...

Can you imagine what a guy like Bill Snyder could have done with all the NU resources?  When Wisconsin fans were elated that Coz was leaving, that should have been an indicator to the nubsters.

I won't make excuses for what happened in Lubbock.  Perhaps it was karma's swift kick in the arse.  But I would like to point a few things out...

Adam Carriker 1-13 (2007) So
AC was a reshirt So in 2004, and was anything far from healthy this season, or any until 2005.

Fabian Washington 1-23 (2005) Jr
Fabian was one of the few outspoken players that, when Solich was fired, stepped up and said they wanted to play for Bo Pelini.  When Pelini wasn't retained, Fabian wasn' up to par.  It should also be noted, that his high draft selection was due in large part to the 4.33- 40 he ran at the combine.

Barrett Ruud 2-36 (2005) Sr
The guy did have 15 or so tackles in this game, hard to put blame on him.

Josh Bullocks 2-40 (2005) Jr
Daniel Bullocks 2-40 (2006) Jr
The twins were good, just not on that night... yikes

Stewart Bradley 3-87 (2007)  So.
He started, but had 3 tackles at Tech.

Jay Moore 4-104 (2007)
Jay was a backup Sophomore in 2004

LeKevin Smith 6-206 (2006) vJr
Titus Adams 7-220 (2006) Jr
Smith and adams played 93% of the defensive snaps in 2004 at DT.  We simply did not have any depth behind them.  Both increased their draft stock in 05 when, with capable backups giving them a breather, they combined for double digit sacks.

So, on the surface, yes, there was ample talent in 2004.  Deeper research reveals what I have.  enjoy!

Barrett Ruud 2-36 (2005) Sr
The guy did have 15 or so tackles in this game, hard to put blame on him.  Still part of a unit that gave up 70pts.

Josh Bullocks 2-40 (2005) Jr

Only relevant rebuttle to Manhatter's statement. Imagine how bad it could have been if they were out  140-0?

So, on the surface, yes, there was ample talent in 2004.  Deeper research reveals what I have.  enjoy!

And what exactly does this deeper research reveal?  That NU had ample talant in a season that several huskers complain that they had no talent?  That the reason that NU lost to tech so badly was because their talented draftee's gave up 70 pts.

All I see of what you provided was that there were athletes on the field that NFL scouts deemed fast/athletic/football players.  Enough so that many of them were taken on the first day.  And any justification you provided for them being drafted so high doesn't discount Cally's inability to coach them... does it not?

Deeper research reveals a depth of excuses.

Oh, and Moore was a starter for at least parts of 2004.

Love the excuse for Fabian.  He rocked under Pelini, but sucked under Slash, therefor it's the player's fault!

I guess none of you kitty-rats even saw the game. It was a game of Nebraska turnovers DEEP in their own area. Texas Tech had 4 TD’s that was for 14 yards or less.
Check the stats and get back.  :violin:

That's what K-Light fans resort to now. They talk about a blowout loss Nebraska suffered to another team years ago, wax poetic about how they beat us several years ago in Lincoln, and taunt us about a dead former QB. Too bad your team isn't any better, or you might have more ammunition.

Nebraska had a bad game against a good team that presented matchup problems. Period. It happens. And it could have been worse, we could have lost to Baylor.

hatter, since your such a hound for the facts could you let me know who our back up dt's were in that game.  you know, guys that could come in and help lekevin and titus so that they didn't have to play the entire game without a break.  thanks.

then, do some research and tell me what normally happens to a defense when it's offense turn the ball over 9 times to a team that averages 40 points a game normally, thanks.

What is even better about this thread is all these huskers are defending their team by talking bad about it. This is pure entertainment.

carriker, moore and stu bradley were also getting their first starts that year as well as the other outside backer who replaced demorrio williams.  heck, stu bradley never even played backer before and carriker was a DT the year before under solich as a rs frosh.

the fact of the matter is that we did have some talent but it was really young and inerxpereinced.  it is also a fact that depth killed us more than anything that year.  lekevin And titus were our only 2 schol dt's on the team.  they had to play every snap, never getting a break.  Some teams that isn'ty a huge deal, but to a team like tech that passes 45 times a game it's exhausting.  The fact is on our entire lb corps the only lb who had ever taken a snap as a starter in a game was barret Ruud.  Out of all the lb's there was only one other that even had game experience.  We had 4 schol lb's that year, one returning starter, one that had never played backer before and one that had played in a few games the year before as a backup at another position.

I do also find it funny that hatter is so desperate to talk smack he needs to use another teams game against us from a few years ago.  is that how far things have fallen in manhattan?

Things have fallen.   In manhattan, but more-so in Lincoln.  Would you have frequented a KSU board as much as you do now if it were available 10 years ago?

Just so you dummies know here are the real facts.

The score midway through the third quarter was 21-10. Tech got the ball back after a punt and Benard Thomas got a 15 yard personal foul penalty that started the whole fiasco.

After Tech's touchdown to make it 28-10, Nebraska goes 3 and out on the ensuing kickoff taking just :29 seconds off the clock. The punt is returned 20 yards to the NU 41 so Tech has a short field from which to score.

So NU puts in true freshman QB Beau Davis on the next series and Davis promptly fumbles on a QB hurry, which TT recovers on the NU 14. Score. 42-10.

Next series, Davis is picked on his first throw and TT takes over at the 36 for another short field. 14 plays, 64 yard drive. By now the defense is demoralized and has been on the field the entire night.

Next series, Cory Ross fumbles on the NU 8. Another short field for Tech.

Next series, Davis is intercepted and the pass is returned to the NU 6.

Next series, Davis is intercepted and the pass is returned to the NU 6 again.

So there's the real story. 35 points off turnovers and four scores came from inside the TT 14 yard line.

Now let's hear your excuses for the beating you took.

LOL, that's so much more embarrassing than if they had just beaten you silly the whole game. 56 points in what, 20 some minutes of play? Oh, and our excuses are that we sucked. We actually have the ability to recognize when our team isn't very good..

Of course, we had a win over a top 5 team on our belts.

Nu had what, that home win over 4-7 ku? Home win over 3-8 Baylor? Home Win over 5-6 Missouri?
