Who wouldn't want to live and win in Tampa? Leavitt is the only coach the Bulls have had in their decade in Division I-A.

"You've got to be careful about the big picture," Leavitt said, "not just take a job because of money or ego. I never felt comfortable about it. Kansas State offered me a lot more money than Alabama (after the 2005 season). I'm telling you I would have been one of the highest paid guys out there."

But Leavitt, a St. Petersburg native, liked his players, bosses and being around his parents, who are both in their 80s. And running a program that is just now tapping its potential. The Bulls upset West Virginia last year after knocking off Louisville in 2005.

Glad to see Weiser was at least serious about it.

He offered freaking Beilema $1.3 mil.  Leavitt will come back when Prince gets canned.

Why, because he left us with Stoops? That's not why he won't ever be hired here as a football coach. Hth.

I've heard from Day 1 that we tried to get Leavitt and that he wanted to come back but he didn't want to be the man to replace the man. He wants to be the man to replace the man who replaced the man.

I don't care what Venables has done in the past.  The &@#%er is insane.  And really good at coaching football.  It's basically the perfect combination.

I would have done flips of joy over either a Bielma or Leavitt hire.

I dig the Roy Williams theory on Leavitt though.  Keep hope alive!

When you consider that we apparently went all out after Leavitt, and actually got Huggins, you can't help but to feel that the Admin is serious about the major sports.

In the end though, we have Martin and Prince.  Maybe it will be a double miracle.

Did you see weiser considered majerus after huggins bailed?
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

And really good at coaching football.

link?  He's never made a D1 anything without someone else getting the same title with him so they can hold his hand.  His only stint as a coordinator without someone else there was the 03 B12 champioship game and the following bowl game, so the only evidence says quite the opposite.  Just sayin'

I don't know why Leavitt would come back after Prince because if (a) Prince is fired, that probably means we're at about or near the same level as we were in Snyder's last couple of years, which is to say that we'd suck big time, so assuming that Leavitt would be an attractive hire, that would mean that he's having success...so why leave that for here; also, he wouldn't be going "home". (b) if Prince leaves, it's probably because he's had some very, very good success, so Jimmy would be following the second coming of Snyder so to speak, which seemed to scare him off the first time.

1)  His parents will have croaked.
2)  Don't understimate the "following a legend" syndrome.
3)  $$$$$$

4)  Prince would leave for an NFL coordinator gig after a series of 7-9 win seasons (in a heartbeat, IMO) <-not Snyder-esque

I do think that Prince wants to jump to the NFL, but I'm not sure what kind of success would land him there.  Also, I'm assuming Jim's wife is like most wives of current, former, and prospective KSU coaches and freaking hates the idea of Manhattan.
