so i am a pretty avid watcher of horror movies and horror literature. last night i watched probably the best horror movie i have seen in years and was totally caught off guard by it. The Descent is absolutely good, and plays perfectly as a horror movie... i was wanting to recommend it to any horror buffs on the board...

who else likes horror movies? what is your favorite?

yesterday i saw a title i really wanted to see, it was called "Ankle Biters" and was about dwarf sized vampires that somehow obtain a powerful pedant that will turn people ino "Shaq-size" vampires. I was this close, but decided on The Descent.

I wouldn't call myself a horror officianado, but I do like them.  I dont' get into it deep enough to see anything that isn't already popular and has made the rounds.  But to me, nothing will ever be more scary than The Exorcist.  The redone version with the spider crawl down the stairs sent chills up my spine.

Some of the newer horror movies that is nothing but CGI and lame make-up and crap usually just makes me laugh.

I've always been a fan of B-grade horror movies, especially the TV versions.  They can become comedic gold once the editors get a hold of them.

Some of my favorites:
CHUD
Piranha II

Yup.  They were experimental piranhas to be dropped into the rivers behind the lines in Vietnam.  I especially liked the part where the flying fish jumped out of the dead body at the morgue.

I just called you by it. You interpreting that as a rip is telling, though. Does that mean you've been beaten every time you call me "kougs," complete with quotation marks? Ouch.

Most overrated piece of crap ever. Not scary. At all. People that recommend this movie are really just lameasses that are trying to be cool and trendy by recommending a foreign film that most people have never heard of.

(spoiler alert)

i'll agree that the audition isn't the best movie... but it does push the bounds of the horror film norms. the movie slowly builds, and doesn't really give much to let you know what is going to happen. the only clues you get are her sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring and the big bag of moving potatoes which turns out to be a guy. it is uniquely shot, and definitely an original play on gore/horror flicks. originality alone is worth watching it, but i do agree it gets overrated a bit. oldboy, however is the masterpiece.

(end spoiler alert)

both films appease the gore fanatics more than the horror nuts, as they don't really dabble in the suspense much. if you want to see some of the craziest special effects make up and blood, then you should see these movies. if you don't, you should see these movies.

I really love horror movies. All kinds. I like the sci-fi end of the world stuff. I like the zombie end of the world stuff. I'm not big on torture type movies. They're not horror movies, not scary. Just gory movies. I did like Hostel, though. Hostel II was really disappointing.

Some recent horror movies: Severance, 28 Weeks Later, War of the Worlds (Original), etc.

I don't watch horror movies, but I liked Shaun of the Dead.  F'ing hilarious.

Why have there been so many freaking horror movies out the last few years?  Seems like The Ring and Saw really set things off.
