Clearly Allen was terrible while Mangino deserves to make more than Bill Self.

Mangino's '02 team went 0-8 in the Big 12 thanks to the mess that Terry Allen left him with.  Since then, ku's been to two bowls and has beaten Mizzou 3 out of the last 4 and  beaten K-State 2 out of the last 3.  ku also broke a 36-year losing streak to Nebraska.  Mangino also lead ku to our first winning season and first bowl win since '95.

It's not great, but it's an improvement.

Bingo. Not having to play 3 top 25, often top 15, teams makes a big change of things.

    Hey, basketball!!!

If ku fans are fine with less than mediocre than just  :loly:

And since than you have been trying to improve by getting to another bowl game for years now. With having the easiest schedule in D-1 this year, you've got a pretty good shot at it. But you'll probably lose to another Toledo or some team of that nature.

Atleast you have found out with Mangino at the helm = Less than mediocre.

Give Mangino an extension!!!!!!!  :hope:

Toledo was the first true road game for our RS-Fr. QB (Kerry Meier).  He struggled a little bit, just like Freeman struggled on the road against just about everyone last season.

39-20.

Terry Allen inherited a pretty decent team from Grinnin' Glen.  BMW makes a good point, but Mangino should certainly be improving this coming year and I can't see it happening.  If they lose to both Missouri and KSU, Mangino should hit the road.

ku was 4-7, 2-6 in conference the year before Terry Allen took over . . .and Terry Allen played twice as many ranked opponents in 5 years (all but one were Big 12 teams), and nearly three times as many ranked Big 12 North opponents in five years as Woolygino has in five years.

The North might have been a lot better when Terry Allen (LOL) was ku's head coach, but the South wasn't nearly as strong.  Oklahoma was mediocre, Texas Tech was pretty average, Texas wasn't the same monster they are today, Texas A&M was okay (especially in '98), Baylor sucked as usual, and Oklahoma State was below average.

Allen flat-out sucked.  His teams had no discipline, no heart, no guidance, no structure, no identity.  He actually recruited some good players, but most of them were either ineligible or got into trouble.  His teams lost double-digit games at home to the San Diego State's of the world.  I could go on and on.  Mangino inherited a program that couldn't have beaten some of the best high school teams.

It was amazing that he could turn it around as quickly as he did in '03 by going 3-5 in conference and playing in the Tangerine Bowl.  '04 was an improved team, but they didn't get it done in the wins column.  '05 was his best year so far, but the offense started slow without Swanson at QB and we let a crappy K-State team squeak out a win in Manhattan.

Last year was just a glimpse of how good ku can be in the future.  We were within an OT loss at Nebraska and a meltdown loss at Baylor from winning the North.  Next year is the hit or miss season for Mangino and we'll see how it turns out.  I'm just glad that the football facilities are finally under construction and the dedication to the football program continues to improve.  K-State fans are relegated to bragging about their team from four years ago and wondering whether or not Ron Prince can last more than three seasons before getting run out of town.

I'll take ku's situation in a heartbeat.  If Mangino gets fired, ku will just hire a better coach at a price of $1.4 million and let him enjoy his brand new coaching office at the Anderson Family Football Complex.

last year was Mangino's "hit or miss" year. The season played out, it was beyond embarrassing for Mangino/ku (prince gets a better conference record in year 1, than Mangino has had in 5 years) and everyone makes excuses and proclaims that NEXT YEAR is "THE" year for HCMM!

seriously, we saw this during years 4, 5 and 6 of the wooldirdge era. Not a fun time.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Wow.....that's exactly the same type of rationalization that was happening around here in Wooly's final 3 years.  The big difference KSU used to have a basketball tradition and some of us knew Wooly must go.  Is there any ku fan that has a clue just how bad their program really still is?

Yep...I bet those top notch football talents are just lined up to play at a basketball school like Kansas.

Hey, at least the bar is set low. All you gotta do is win four conference games in a single year and you top the fat man...that, and go to two bowls in consecutive years.

Yeah, for a "big-time football school" all K-State could get was Ron Prince.

The question is quite simple.  Who would you rather have as your head coach.  Mangino or Prince?  Please say with a serious face that ku's program is heading in the right direction.

LOL . . . in 2000 OU won the national title, Allen's ku team had to play OU that year.   In 1998, Allen had to play A&M, and we all know who won the Big 12 in 1998, and A&M finished the regular season in the Top 10.

Lets review.   In 5 years Allen played twice as many ranked teams, and 3x's as many ranked Big 12 North teams as Mangino played in 5 years . . . oh, and over half of those ranked teams were from the Big 12 South.

Terry Allen must sit back and laugh knowing that in 5 years Mangino has 1 more Big 12 win than he had, and he was despised, and Woolygino keeps hanging on . . . I think Allen likely would've had 5 or 6 more conference wins playing Woolygino's schedule.

I hope ku keeps Mangino around.  If we can't beat that tub o' lard 4 out of 5 then it's our own dang fault for sucking.

I agree. All they ask of him is to beat KSU or MU.  Nothing else matters.

yeah, we were a meltdown loss against baylor away from being tied for 1st in the big 12 and a let down loss from ku away from playing in the big 12 championship as well.     :ksu:
