Every now and then, I get e-mails from members and guests who are concerned about the postings on this board and the content.  In one example, I got a message from an individual who lurks on the board that says, in a derogatory way, that we are a "more open board and allow much more colorful content" (I'm paraphrasing in contrast to the actual wording so it appears more politically correct - a direct violation of the board rules, but merely for illustration) and as such, he will just lurk rather than participate.

Folks, I need not remind you that posting on this board allows the free expression of ideas and commentary that you cannot find on other fan based message boards and the purpose of this board is simply to give all fans that ability to do so.

If you are a person who feels offended by the content of this board, don't hesitate to make it known to the people who post here.   We'd rather have a message board that allows you to share your offensiveness or offendedness, rather than hiding behind a board admin.  It's important that we all be up front.    Let's consider an example.

If you were to post a message on, say, Phog.Net that ku sucks, or for that matter on KSUFans.com that KSU sucks, more than likely, you will be banned, or at the very minimum, have your posting privileges reduced down so that those who were offended and went whining to the board admins wont have to confront you and offer their responding opinion.   On this board, if you were to make such postings, then it's only fair that we allow the concepts of justice prevail that appear in the Constitution of the United States, that eloquent and inspiring document that created the Greatest Human nation the world has ever seen.  You have the right to speak your mind, and have the absolute right to defend yourself in front of your peers.  This is truly acceptable here on this forum.  And by doing so, you will be building a strong character you can use in your daily life that will allow you to better socialize with others.   Imagine the fun it would be to go up to someone at a cocktail party (or for those who are unfamiliar, a gathering at Hooters) and say "ku sucks." to a ku alum, and then get them to open up in spirited dialog.

Does that mean I don't want a "happy" board?  Of course not.  Nothing would please me more than to see the members of this board frolick about in happiness and serenity, saying nothing but good things about my alma mater.  This is not reality.  Everyone is different and we celebrate the diverse opinions that comprise the membership of this board, and that also means, if you participate here, you do so, understanding that people may disagree with your viewpoint, and say so rather pointedly.   Don't let this discourage you.

Message boards are not to be taken so seriously that you need to hang your life around them, but they are meant to satisfy the passion you have, and in this case, for the athletics at Kansas State (may God/Allah/The Creator/Divine Arbitor/Prophets/Blessed Exchequer give His blessing those who attend KSU.)  It's important that you remember this is a means for people who share a common interest to have fun and enjoy and to give them a place to express their passion.

So, for those of you who insist on sending me e-mails in private, criticizing the board as to it's content and posters, from now on, let's post those concerns on the message board directly.  Write your message, state your concerns, address those here who may have challenged your views or perceptions.  Do so, in the understanding, that you can get answers to those nagging questions about why certain posters are never happy, or why some seem to be in complete denial, or others who just can't help but cause trouble, or still, others who think ku is really an athletic school.   Let's all work together to increase our communications amongst each other, and if we are offended, let's share that offense, let's bring it to the table so that others can be enlightened, and let's use it to make this board a more vibrant community.

I hope this will help get many of our guests and anonymous lurkers to come forward and share in the rich tradition of this board.

I'm worried Saul's idiotic post about Hughes is going to scare Jeffrey Martin (aka the God/Allah/The Creator/Divine Arbitor/Prophets/Blessed Exchequer of the KSU beat) away for good.

Burn him!

Let's see if I can translate that back into the original:

"sh**hole full of sh**"

Is that about right?

:beerchug:

Well, actually, it had to do with the Classless Cats forum.   Apparently, skin on a woman is offensive.

And Bookie's picture of floating turds.

Actually, I believe the poster was a male, and of some years, who's just discovered the interweb.  I merely explained what Classless Cats was about, and he seemed to understand and would not go back into the forum.  I believe there is a way to ignore specific forums, and I'm looking into that.

Classless Cats was a website at one time and a few hardcore members posted there.  It was actually set up by me and PardonedCat with input from JavaCat after the infamous crying Husker kid.   It's function is really to go against the idea that KSU fans are really a classy bunch, and in fact, that we have a segment who's function is to be completely classless.

I didn't really do much with it after I got it going, and in the interest of reducing the number of KSU sites I had, I decided to make one supersite and incorporate classless cats into this one.   There are some major changes coming to the site that I've been working on that will segment off the Classless Cats from other parts of the site, but still keep it part of this one.  Cyclist knows what's happening, and the rest of the admins will be brought up to date before it all goes live.

I hope to make an announcement on the board in the next couple of weeks, depending on how much I get done.

You aren't gonna make us pledge our allegiances to the likes of Weiser, Leland, and RMC to post here are you?

I like you MJ...you aren't too close to the administration to allow straight shooting when it comes to KSU sports.

Leland is the man though.

This board is cool how you have alot of freedom on it and you dont have to worry about nazi moderators. The problem sometomes with boards like these is you'll see alot of good posters with good info leave because they get annoyed with the discussion. The other board is the scout board, and while there are alot of good posters there, scout boards annoy me the way they are always shoving there service down your throat which is a big deal for cheap asses like me. I might have to finally subscribe and pay the 10 buck fee every month. Im used to getting alot of free info from Mike Ryan who runs a UC recruiting website that is free.

Yeah, it's an issue about good posters.   We need people who want serious discussion, but also are not turned off by some of the personal attacks that may come from it.  As the owner of the site, I get a lot of grief from both sides, but I'm not afraid to mix it up and have a heated discussion.  Some people may not agree with my views, but I will back them up and when I'm wrong, I will admit it.   I am hoping that people realize the one thing that will be important on this board that while you need a thick skin, you shouldn't be afraid to make your views known.

At the same time, I dont' want people to have carte blanche on just posting mean and dispiriting things.   It doesn't add to the message board and there are a number of tools I can use to help "moderate" that.

The bottom line is, people need to have fun here, be spirited, passionate, and enjoy the rivalry and revelry.   We all benefit from the vibrant discussions.

I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

OK, I admit I was wrong.

When I was referring to good posters and people of intelligence in general,  I was wrong to include GoldBrickGangBoss.

I apologize to all posters for that mischaracterization.

Thanks for pointing that out Goldy.
