It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

some colorado QB from the 80's who died of stomach cancer at age 21 in 1989.
We all know there's been a conspiracy. Only the failures have been recorded.

Yeah, I know who he is.  Didn't he knock up McCartney's daughter and then, later, she got knocked up by an OL.  Promise un-kept.

Yeah, it's true, but it didn't make them bad fans because CU was mean to the Huskers and they deserved it.

I heard two of our fans had a sign that said that.  :blindfold:

I didn't see it though.

Bruce Feldman of ESPN:
The worst and most classless bumper sticker ever came from the Midwest. In 1988, Colorado star quarterback, Sal Aunese, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Aunesse died in the middle of the 1989 season. An idiot Nebraska fan printed bumper stickers that said, "Go Big Red; Sal is Dead." I know it was the work of one idiot but to this day I always pulld for the Buffaloes when they face Nebraska.

"Sal is dead, go Big Red" painted on I-70? How about the "CU in hell Sal" signs?

Wow, I didn't realize all that happened. That's sickening. Anyone that would make a joke out of some guy dying is just an a-hole.

(My excuse for not knowing the details of this is that I was like seven years old at the time.)

Yes, it's true.  Here is your history of the Big XII North fans:

NU Fans - Absolutely the most hypocritical self-obsessed fans in the nation.  Carved into rock above the entrance to their stadium is engraved: "Through these gates pass the greatest fans in college football" and they take great pride in giving standing ovations to every visiting opponent - win or lose.

Except when Kansas State visited Lincoln in 2003 and beat the ever-living crap out of them.  Sure, the 20 or so people who didn't leave may have clapped a little bit, but the rest were getting drunk in the various back yards around the stadium and plotting the murder of Frank Solich.  Add in the aforementioned "Sal is Dead" episode along with numerous domestic violence incidents punctuated by Lawrence Phillips reinstatement just in time to win a national championship and you have a fan base that surpasses all other NCAA institutions in hypocrisy.  It's not even close.

CU Fans - Common criminals.  They didn't start out this way, but the constant beatings from the over-bearing, self-righteous Huskers left them feeling that the world is completely unfair.  Their only success came from the few years after McCartney solidified his recruiting ties to the inner city gangs in L.A.  This led them to embrace MCMW.  They throw bags of piss and they beat opposing fans and police sometimes have to clear the stadium during games or use tear gas to clear the field after games.  The Sal incident only served as an excuse to pillage and loot on a grander scale.

KSU Fans - The consummate underdog.  Beloved and pitied by all...until we got good.  Then we were a bunch of loudmouthed, cocky, ass-kickers.  Of course this led to much disdain from the Huskers who feel compelled to constantly remind KSU fans of our historical inferiority.  With our new-found cockiness we threw up the Brooke Berringer threads which, understandably, threw the Husker fans into a tizzy of rants about classiness.  Older Huskers kept their mouths shut because they remember what they did to Sal.

MU Fans - The other consummate underdog.  Only bigger than KSU.  When they get good (and someday they will) they will be just like KSU only with 10X more chirpers and 10X more annoying.  Someday, Mizzou will be the absolute bane of every Husker's existence.  They have the capacity to combine both the criminal elements of CU with the cockiness of KSU to become the worst case nightmare for the Big Red.

ISU Fans - The little brother.  Begging for attention.

ku Fans - Irrelevant.

You missed Missouri fans by a mile.

No MU fan thinks of themselves as underdogs.  For decades they've been convinced that they are a football force, on the verge of something great.  I had Missouri fans at the '98 game telling me how Missouri was the better team, and Corby the better QB.

They have delusions of grandeur that far exceeds any other fan base.

They don't think they are a football force, but "on the verge of something great" sums up every one of their past 30 years.  Those Mizzou fans in '98 are just showing you the incredible level of cockiness that is itching to come out.  The delusions of grandeur that you see now are just a glimpse of the unbearable superiority complex which will be released with a Big XII Title and a BCS appearance.

And yet most people in the state of Missouri still won't care and will watch the Rams/Chiefs.  :onthecan:

There is a lot of truth in this post, but also some things I disagree with. For example, I don't think Nebraska bears total responsibility for the way Colorado fans act. Boulder is a wealthy, pseudo-communist enclave with a collection of some of the most spoiled antisocial personality disorders in the world, and most of them attend the university there. Even in Colorado, Boulder is widely despised for this very reason. The criminal element and hatred were there already...we just gave it a target.

Ass-kickers?  For the first hundred of so years of your existence you were the worst team in college football. Then you had a fluky five year run where you were actually competitive, and let it go straight to your heads. Now you're on your way back down to the bottom of the barrel again. Keep reliving past memories of when you were relevant however. It's amusing.

In the meantime, Nebraska is the defending Big 12 North Champions, was projected by USA Today to win the Big 12 Title and end up in a BCS Bowl, has a future NFL draft pick at QB, committed a guy ESPN called the top QB recruit in years, and the top offensive line class in the country, and will end up with another top ten recruiting class overall.

Plus we got news this week that standout CB Zach Bowman's rehab is proceeding ahead of schedule, and he'll likely be back to start the season.

It's good to be a part of Husker Nation. Especially when the alternative might involve wearing "homosexual purple," living in a trailer park called Manhattan, and spending your days staring at an empty trophy case.

Those years are included in the five or so you've been relevant in the last century. Even during that period, no one ever considered you a legitimate title contender.

I notice you're still prattling on about beating us in Lincoln in 2003. How about the roughly 100 times we've come down to Manhattan and reinforced why your wearing of homosexual purple is all too appropriate? How about the drubbing we gave you down there last year?? It's pretty laughable, but then so is your claim to be a legitimate football program.

2000 - KSU 29-28
2001 - NU 21-13
2002 - KSU 49-13
2003 - KSU 38-9
2004 - KSU 42-21
2005 - NU 28-27
2006 - NU 21-3

4-3 since 2000.

And look at at those scores..  Has NU even scored 30 points in any game this century?

Pretty good dominance by KSU over the (has been) Huskers.

You guys are so irrelevant.

BTW:  KSU has won a conference title during that time.  NU went to the NC game in 2001* but was embarrassing for the Big 12.

2006 - NU 21-3

4-3 since 2000.

You'll notice that the 2002-2004 period was during the beginning of the Solich-Callahan transition. The real trend started shortly after, as we went from losing by 21 in 2004, to winning by 1 in 2005, to winning by 18 in Manhattan in 2006. The game last year wasn't even that close, as there was no threat at any time that you guys would actually score a TD, and we called off the dogs early.

This trend will continue as the WCO is fully installed, and we have a few classes of highly rated recruits who fit that system. We're pulling away from the rest of the Big 12 North, and will likely win the Big 12 this year, to continue our progress back to being a perennial National Championship contender.

If you're so high on K-State though, feel free to put your money where your mouth is. I'll bet you a college football jersey of your choice that Nebraska beats K-State this year.

We've actually been called Husker Nation for some time...I suspect that virtually every team uses the moniker "Nation" after their mascot to describe their fan base.
