early on we were the favs.

Seems 50/50 now
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

50 us/50 who?

Seriously, though.  We're going to end up with a team of 5-9, 165 scat backs and 6-5, 250 OL's.  Am I missing something, or were Prince's first 10 commits last year much better than the first 10 this year?

It's a long run/average type thing.

In the long run...if you recruit alot of players that aren't highly rated and don't get much attention...your success will be lower than going for the blue-chips

Seriusly, you're suppose to be the pessimist here.

Do you know how much weight you can put on a 6-5 to 6-7 frame that's already got 250-260 pounds on it??

LaMark Brown is is a stud as well.

Again, the Aufner kid is a prototype of the kind of O-lineman you want in this offense.

Basically, we should be recruiting on Capital Grille hours instead of Waffle House hours.

What about the other NINE commits with no other D1 offers?

Shouldn't we wait to see what some of these blue chips do, then offer these KS kids late?  It's great to get lots of KS/KC metro kids, but you can't build a program on KS/KC kids.

You also run the risk of not getting those blue chips and then missing out on the good kids in KC and KS.   Kids are sticking to the first offer and commit more and more these days, they're getting tired of the game.

Plus, you're nuts if you think you can't build on kids like Aufner.  Chief, he was 1st team All-State, All-Metro as a Junior.  He's 6 freakin 7, he moves well, he's coached well, he has great technique.

The Bell kid is one of the fastest to ever play in Olathe, he runs in the 4.3 range, has already scored a 25 on the ACT and has a 3.4 GPA.   The kid is in the 10.6's in the 100 meter.

Yeah, maybe a couple of those guys so far are a bit of a reach ... but I also like the Liberty kids as well.

I'm just worried that Prince is thinking he's smarter than the rest of the Big XII and is in for a rude awakening.  If this strategy was the way to go, why isn't anyone in the Big XII trying it?

well the only other schools that are in the same situation as kstate and kwho is iowa state, and the oklahoma schools.  missouri, nebraska, and colorado effectively have the whole state to themselves, minus colorado state, so they dont have to compete for in state recruits against other instate schools like we do.  plus oklahoma can go anywhere to get recruits so that rules them out.  that leaves osu, isu and us and none of the three can go anywhere and recruit.  i dont know that its the right decision by Prince and only we are in the smallest state in the big 12 with 2 schools to compete for the recruits.  hopefully Prince knows what he is doing.

I hear this is just a "base" ... throughout the summer the staff is going National.  I understand the hard sell for Keck is coming soon, and then they're going "national".

I could live with that, I suppose.  It just seems backwards.  They've had Keck at several BB games already.  WTF is the "hard sell" going to be?

Don't know, just a guess ... plus it's not backwards.  Snyder's staff got a bad rep of thinking they could just walk in on local kids late and they'd just fall all over themselves to get to KSU.  That's not the case anymore.

Do you think Prince is taking marginal kids just to rebuild relationships w/ KS coaches?

Rusty ... you throw around the word "marginal" like every kid we're on is marginal.  How do you know, you're just going by what the early recruiting databases say about offers.

Aufner is not marginal, Bell is not marginal ... you listen to the squawks to much.   Since when did the squawks become experts on football recruiting??

You don't get to be 1st team all state 5A as a junior in Missouri and also be a "marginal" player.

You keep talking about Aufner, which is great.  Ray-Pec is a powerhouse program, First team All state in MO, is tough, etc.  However,   honorable Mention KS All-Staters are "marginal" in my book.

As a Junior ...  Bell Rushed for 1800 yards and averaged 7.5 yards per carry and scored 23 TD's on the 6A level.

I'd say we have a decent chance of landing him, but his recruitment is going national now.  The Fighting Irish are now on him, and so too are many of the Big Ten schools.  Husker honks have been making a big deal out of his visit to their spring game last weekend, saying he really liked his visit.  Who ever says they did'nt care for their visit these days?  Nobody. He seems to have been in Manhattan quite a bit over the past semester, so he already might feel like Manhattan is where he would like to end up.  One of his best friends was the bigtime DL commit from Harrisonville last year, and he has said previously that he would love to play college ball with him.

We'll see.

Prince has said Rivals rankings are worth crap.

He's taking great athletes.

I say relax.  He's coached at bigtime program and played against FSU.

I think the guy knows talent and how to coach it.

    Gettin' angried up!!!
The man has coached in the ACC for pete sake, I would have to assume he knows what D1 talent looks like.  Didn't Virginia go to bowls the last four years?  Marginal talent doesn't earn you trips to bowls in a conference with VaTech, FSU, Miami, NC State, etc.

shouldn't he be trying to build relationships with TEXAS coaches?
