Just got home from Wichita Catbackers. Pretty routine, except RP had a little to get off his chest.
First couple minutes were "nice to be in Wichita, great support, etc..."
Then he stated he wanted to thank one supporter in specific: "This household has donated over a million dollars... Jeffrey Martin, stand up!"
This was stated after RP watched Jeff leave an hour + earlier.
RP did a fake scan of the crowd and stated that Jeffrey must not have wanted to stay for "when I got on the mic."
RP went on to state how lucky Wichita was to have Jeff and his "informed, fair, balanced reporting which is unprecedented in the state."
Noted how Jeff is known for producing famous headlines like "Dewey Beats Truman."
Stated how appreciative he is of Jeff's comments, and due to those, they're really gonna start focusing on recruiting Kansas. "It takes an east-coast media guy in a Boston Red Sox hat to help us know how to recruit."
I thought it was over until a non-sequiter a few minutes later where he compared something to the "journalistic integrity" Jeff's known for.
Again, I thought he was moving on until he got to recruiting where he stated how they're now blessed with the genius advice of recruiting in-state, and he has Brian Butler and Jeffrey Martin to thank for that wisdom. He implored the crowd "... and if any of you know any great local recruits, you can e-mail me."
He pointed out Frank Martin and stated something to the effect of "you get the KC Star, I get the Wichita Eagle" apparently stating their respective arch-enemies.
Most of the audience laughed when it seemed like it was time to laugh, but I'm not sure how many of them got the jokes.
It was very bizarre.
Frank Martin got a standing O.
