A 200 foot toss with the newer style Javelin (the changed aerodynamics on the Javelin back in the mid 80's after the world record would've hit in the 8th lane at the other end of the track at places like KSU and other real track and FIELD venues) is pretty damn good for a High Schooler.

you might as well mention his sister was a good softball player for the cobs

feel free to write KSU athletics or any other D1 football program and tell them to stop putting anything in their bios that has anything to do w/ academic or athletic achievement whether it pertains to football or not.

I never said the Javelin = good TE.

Yep, throw the new javelin 200 feet and that is really outstanding.  That kid from Shawnee Heights throwing it 229' this year was absurd.

    It's time to hit it.
Maybe he can chuck the javelin down the field at each snap and spear a couple defenders.  Now that's a scary smart way to open up holes in the defense.

Tight end from Olathe East committed to K-State yesterday. 6-3, 240, runs a 4.7.

Discuss...

The only reason this guy isn't in the Rivals database is because he comes from a small school in an unknown conference in a rural area.
I'm guessing sarcasm?

Wildcats Secure Verbal from Tannahill

By Greg Powers
Scout.com
Posted Jun 19, 2007

Kansas State has discovered yet another tremendous sleeper talent with-in the Midland region when they secured a verbal commitment from Olathe East athlete Travis Tannahill, who will be coming in to play tight end for the Wildcats.

It was huge surprise when Olathe East’s quarterback Travis Tannahill called this afternoon to inform Scout.com that he had committed to play for Coach Ron Prince and the Kansas State Wildcats.

“I just loved the town of Manhattan,” Tannahill began. “I am also going to love playing for Coach Prince. He is a young, exciting, and hip coach that has the program headed in the right direction. I just felt like I was supposed to be there!”

“I love all of the buildings on campus. It is just a program on the rise and they are going to be a great team.”

Tannahill may line up at quarterback for his high school, but he will be making a move to tight end on the next level. The fact that he plays a different position may have kept him under the radar, but Coach Prince and the Wildcats coaching staff are becoming notorious for unearthing the best kept secrets.

“I am going in to play tight end,” Tannahill informed. “They want me to bulk up to about 240-250 pounds and still keep my speed. I got to take a look at the playbook. It looked really confusing, but I am sure I will be able to get it down.”

Tannahill noticed that the school is bringing in a couple of quarterbacks in this class as well, and he is excited to get to know them.

“I definitely think it is exciting to get to come in with guys who may be throwing you the ball for three or four years. I am looking forward to getting to know them and hang out. I am sure that I will get to know the guys that are coming in with my class the best.”

Do not think for one second that an offensive player from the state of Kansas has not noticed the exciting things that KSU has done offensively that allowed them to knock off a team like Texas last season.

“It is a real exciting offense,” Tannahill stated. “Josh Freeman is doing some exciting things.”

Great, get.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Yeah, until he goes on the radio and says, "Ron Prince has a couple of commitments that are dark horses at best.  I'm a little suprised that he has not set the bar a little higher."  Then he will come on our board and try to explain what he meant by it.

Crabtree is totally full of $(#*.

He obviously lacks fundamentals as he's holding the ball away from this body and is not applying the proper pressure points with his hand and forearem.  He also looks very slow.  Terrible get, imo.

looks like he could definitely be 220 in that photo...of course that photo would have been taken some 8 months ago or so.

Both he and his coach told Crabby he is between 235-240 now...Crabby is meeting him later this week and said he will know for sure.

20lbs on a kid that age over 8 months is reasonable.

Big time pick-up.

Seriously, does anyone really think stars matter?  Snyder plucked these types of diamonds from the rough with zero scholarship offers from any other major programs in the country for years and I didn't hear too many complaints.

My guess is he was probably higher on our "board" than Tanner Hawkinson or Tim Bier.

Get some FBIQ.

If you're trying to tell me scholarship offers from high majors like Georgia Tech, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State are a better indicator of football talent then a javeline throw, you haven't been following the game too long.

Stars DON'T matter.  Go back and look how many national championships Texas, Ohio State, Florida, and USC have won and tell me where they ended up in the recruiting rankings.

Well I guess that's one way to spin it.

we could spin it by saying he was being recruited by Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Auburn when really he was considering walking on to Arkansas over Kansas and offers from Tennessee-Martin and Arkansas STATE.

USC's 2003 title team was filled w/ 4 and 5 star kids...or not.  Actually if you read the article in ESPN the magazine about USC's defensive line that year which was being dubbed a nickname as a sequel to a DL back in the 60's or 70's "Wild Bunch II" you would know that Patterson, Udeze, and Nazel were very lightly recruited.

Some of OU's better teams under Stoops had far more lightly recruited kids than his current teams that are not as good...Derrick Strait, Dan Cody, Teddy Lehman, Quentin Griffin, Antwone Savage, Mark Clayton..none were highly recruited.  They are far better players than some of the current sooners who had offers from everywhere.
