Meh.  I'm sure some KSU fans will be hot and bothered about not being in the top 50, but it's no big deal, we probably don't deserve it anyways.

I don't understand how a team like OU can be in it's 2nd year of not having a legit QB (and they'll still contend for if not win the Big 12).   Damn you Bob Stoops.

Louisville...  Kinda high considering they have an entirely new coaching staff....

Brohm's still there though... right?  I know Bush is gone; but they had some good back-ups.

NC State??  Okay.

The ACC though, that has the potential to be one hell of a football conference, particularly now that Butch Davis is at UNC.

I would have Rutgers higher than 30th.  We do not deserve to be in the top 50.  Mizzou getting some respect at 20.  No TTech somewhat interesting given Leach's recent history.

Steele is one of the best if not the best there is as far as I'm concerned.   He was one of the few that didn't have KSU picked last in 06.  I don't have a problem with the rankings MU and NU are are the only 2 big 12 North teams in his top 50 which is fair.  I think we have a good shot at being 3rd in the North and making a bowl again this year but I don't know if that makes us top 50 or not in a weak division.  I'd say we're borderline top 50 when you look at what we did last year and what we return compared to the other North teams then I think the smart money would put us third in the North behind MU and NU and ahead of ku, CU, and ISU.  But the smart money isn't always right out of the six teams in the division someone is going to do worse then expected and someone is going to do better then expected.  Last year KSU and ISU kind of traded places and everyone else finished about like they were forecasted.

Phil Steele bases nearly everything on schedule and mature talent.  Recruiting ratings play heavily in his picks.  This is really not a suprise.

USC
LSU
Oklahoma few spots too high for me
West Virginia
Michigan
Texas
Louisville
Florida State 7-6 too high
Virginia Tech
Penn State ??? lol
Georgia
Hawaii way way too high, no defense
South Carolina
Florida
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Alabama lol 6-6 new coach
Oregon tanked end of season
Missouri ahead of Nebraska?
Texas A&M
UCLA
Nebraska
tcu
South Florida
Tennessee
Arizona State
Miami
California
Iowa
Rutgers they'll never learn, too low
Boise State
Memphis
Southern Miss
BYU
Purdue
Virginia
Arkansas too low, McFadden
Notre Dame
Oregon State way too low
Oklahoma State
Auburn  blows my mind how they are in the 40s when they are a Top 25 team, better than bama.
Georgia Tech
Illinois  only 2 spots worse than Auburn? sure thing, won 4 games in last 2 seasons. lol
Utah
Clemson
Houston no more Kolb
Toledo lol
Troy lol
NC State
Western Michigan

Just some things that stuck out to me.  Philly might have been pretty accurate in the past but his cred going to take a hit this year.

    The very best.
Steele bases everything on stats from the previous year. Ours sucked.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

You're right.  It's about stats analysis.  He's a gambling guy and has been doing this for over 20 years.  The reason he's consistently one of the top prognosticators in the game is because he couldn't care less about the name on the jersey.

He is very heavy on returning starters, seniors, lettermen, etc. as well.  This is usually a good way to go betting early games.

They do show how far a program has come.

I'm getting sick of not cracking the top 50 in pre-season rankings. (aka, usually means you will suck this upcoming year)

I think we are 45th in sporting news.  I think that is pretty accurate.
