Kansas City wants in on the Seattle Super Sonics.

Tim Leiweke, president of Anschutz Entertainment Group, which will manage the new downtown Sprint Center, said he was encouraged by comments made by Super Sonics chairman Clay Bennett in Monday’s editions of The Kansas City Star that he plans to consider the Kansas City market if his club moves from Seattle.

Bennett, who is an Oklahoma City businessman, has been frustrated at Seattle’s inability to come up with a plan for a new arena to replace outdated Key Arena, the second-smallest facility in the NBA. The Sonics’ lease does not expire until 2010, but the franchise could opt out for $75 million after the 2007-08 season. Bennett established an Oct. 31 deadline for another arena plan or he will move the team, and he has NBA Commissioner David Stern’s blessing to do. Oklahoma City enthusiastically supported the New Orleans Hornets during the past two seasons, but its Ford Center, a $90 million facility, will not produce the revenue streams the $276 million Sprint Center will provide.

The Sonics have some exciting players in Ray Allen (who is coming off ankle surgery that slowed him this season), Rashard Lewis (an unrestricted free agent whom they plan to re sign), Chris Wilcox (whom they recently re signed) and Luke Ridnour (whom they recently re signed). They're keeping that group together. Plus they've got Nick Collison to bring in the ku crowd and they're projected to get a Top 5 draft pick after tonight's lottery which could bring them another Gayhawk in Julian Wright if they don't manage to have Greg Oden or Kevin Durant fall into their lap.

They gotta get something for that building and you better hope it's not the NHL if you want to actually see it. The NBA is more popular then it has been in awhile so why not give it another shot?

I'm going on record today (5/22/07) and saying that Rusty's kickball team will be the anchor tenant of the Sprint Center.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
I would go to more NBA games at the Sprint Center than I would KSU bball and FB games combined (not even close).

NBA, too many ku dorks.

That being said i'd probably go to 15-20 home games.  The fact that you'd get to see some of the best athletes in the country perform individually is awesome.  You can't get that w/ football and baseball.

The things NBA'ers can do is incredible, it's not like they're just a little bigger/faster like the NFL/MLBe.

    The very best.
Please don't let this happen.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Please don't let this happen.

It won't.  Imagine that a Oklahoma City businessman is going to choose KC over his city?
Plus D.Stern loves Oklahoma Cityineases after they adopted his New Orleans club.

It looks like Kevin Durant is going to fall right into their laps. This will allow them to let Lewis go away!

It takes longer to crack the Majors than any other sport.  How many guys go from starting college to starting MLB in consecutive seasons?  Happens every year in the NBA and NFL.

Ric Bucher was just on ESPNews talking about Oden and Durant when they also asked him about the Sonics. His prediction is that they're headed for OKC.
