Gabbert is a poor man's Josh Freeman.  You can have him.

Freeman is turning out exactly how I thought he'd turn out. No coaching. No talent around him. Playing in an undisciplined program. Confidence busted because he was played too early and needed to mature first. By all accounts from your spring and spring game, he's going straight in reverse. You can have him.

....beat Texas, takes team expected to win zero conference games by you to a bowl(2nd in North), earns Big 12 offensive player of the week twice and national player of the week once, as a true freshman.

Yep, just as you expected him to be "pre about-face" on Cally.

Freeman is a bigger, slower version of Jammal Lord. For every one great play he makes, he makes three dumber ones.

You would suspect since he's had a whole season in your system and a whole year in the program after enrolling early, that he'd not show such horrible mechanics and decision making during your spring. But then again, after hearing some of his "escapades" off the field, it doesn't surprise me. There's a very real possibility that, because of the program he's in, he's already peaked and reached his full potential.

you misread that. He didn't have "escapades" OFF THE FIELD...he drives an "escalade" because of what he can do ON THE FIELD. KSU promised him one when we got Ron his jobby job.

'skers never get it right.

Way to ignore the point I made.

    The very best.
Christ, he went 4-3 vs the big 12 as an 18 year old.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

If Gabbert does back out, I hope he just leaves us with time to find another quarterback. That was the main thing that made me mad about Freeman: he backed out like a week before he was supposed to go to Lincoln, and we didn't have time to go find another quality quarterback.  :nutkick:

I'm not too worried though. When they interviewed Gabbert on the radio after his commitment he specifically said, "I won't pull a Josh Freeman."

Besides, we have Witt and Lee too.

I heard that Freeman committed to K-State initially but Ron told him to commit to Nebraska and then back out at the last minute just to screw them over. Prince really wanted to stick it to NU and put them in a fix. Rumor has it that Gabbert is doing the same thing he is just trying to be even more discreet about it. Take it for what it's worth but I heard this from a good source.

Well, it's not a good thing for our chances vs. NU, but it's better for us in the big picture.  Rather have NU ahead of us than NU and MU.

I wasn't saying this at all. I was just acknowledging the fact that Freeman's decommitment came at the last minute and really made things difficult for our depth at that position.

If you weren't talking to me then nevermind.  :)

Whatever dude. Freeman had verballed to Nebraska in June before his senior year, before Bald Bull was even a twinkle in K State's eye. Prince didn't even enter the picture until what, December? Freeman was baited into playing for a black coach by Prince and promised the starting job as a freshman, which wasn't going to happen at Nebraska. As far as Gabbert, by all accounts he and his family are just a little bit more stable than Josh and Ron Prince. Missouri has moved on and is recruiting other QBs now and Gabbert immediately went to recruiting other players for Nebraska. As far as I know, Freeman never did anything like that while he was committed. He was friends with Meno Holt and tried to get Meno to look at K State but Meno told him in no uncertain terms to "f&&& off."

did you really respond to that one?

must be LFBIQ.  Is the "more stability" in the Gabberts derived from Prince and Freeman being black?  Do tell.

I just don't see how another coach would make an inroad with Gabbert, other than maybe Missouri coaches playing the home-state loyalty card more.

Gabbert and his parents actually liked that he wasn't going to be "the man" from day one because we have depth. I never thought our solid depth would help us recruit him, but oddly enough it did. He wants time to develop, and he understands there is competition.

There are no guarantees in recruiting, but I just don't see Gabbert bailing on us.

I'm sorry you guys had to deal with bragging about him though. The quarterback you picked up from Colorado might end up being better. That's the weird thing about recruiting. You can't tell. I never thought our three star Witt was going to develop like he did.

Until Gabbert gets to Lincoln and shows me something awesome, I'm going to continue to assume our post-Keller future is with Lee and Witt. Gabbert might turn out to be as great as his hype, but we probably won't know for at least two or three years.

the freemans instability comes from their lack of ethics and dishonesty.  papa freeman basically sold his own son.  I guess slavery isn't dead

I don't see too much QB depth at NU.

Lee, Witt, and Ganz. All three are developing/playing well. Gabbert walked into a situation where there is a really talented sophomore and a really talented freshman ahead of him.

We have depth problems at linebacker and tight end, but we are okay at qb right now.

Nebraska is in great shape with their QB position for a very long time. Lee has four years to play three so he could redshirt this year. By 2008 Witt is really going to start to take off. And Ganz is serviceable enough to run the offense if needed. Then Gabbert is on the way in. Between those four, NU has depth and talent galore.

and how do you know this?  None of those players have set foot on a D1 field in live game action.  None.  QB is one of the toughest positions both to play and for coaches to assess w/ success.  They could be busts or they could be great.  You don't know, I don't know...quit pretending that you do.

how do we know arthur brown is any good then? how do we know gabbert is any good?  easy.  we trust the evaluations of coaches, scouts and other sources.  When 1 kid has 0 offers and the other kid has 40.  it's safe to say the 2nd kid is probaly better.  as for our qb's.  Sam keller is a legit, big time qb with big time experience.  even with one year of elgability he had stoops, weiss and callahan as his final 3 choices of coaches who wanted him badly.  i will take their opinions over any pathetic know nothing on the net, thats you hatter.  as for zac lee.  #1 juco qb in the nation with the stats to prove it.  throw in witt who transfered from one state to another and in only one year at qb in texas was good enough to garner 8 schol offers.  which is 8 more than your latest qb commit.  lee has 4 years to play 3.  witt has 5 to play 4 and so does gabbert.  we are more set at qb than ksu who has the interception nad fumble machine and his slave trader father calling the shots
