    Hey, basketball!!!
Does anyone agree with me that this camp that is being held for the top upper/underclassmen for Kansas football players with big time D-1 football coaches invited and keeping a good eye on this camp has to be Mangino/Prince's nightmare??? I mean we have these great young athetes from area Kansas high schools that would mostly not be this showcased to other top D-1 programs as other years.

I guess my whole point is didn't you guys feel really good about Chris Harper until the last week or so when we start hearing that he is about to be offered by the likes of Notre Dame, Cal, and other big schools that have an eye on him just because of the camps in Wichita for the rising stars in Kansas high school football.

These camps are being held just to get these Kansas high school football recruit names out there to Division 1 teams other than the Kansas's & Kansas State's.

why is it a "nightmare"?

1) Arthur, Bryce, and Harper were going to get offers w/ or w/ out this camp.

2) opportunity for kids.

Only the Florida's, USC's, etc are mentioned but guaranteed there will be some lower D1 and even some D2 like a Pitt State who get to see kids and develop some opinions.

Apparently we are putting the full court press on Arthur and Chris. I still feel good about both of them.

Harper still favors K-State, but he admits it's becoming difficult to ignore all the recent attention. Harper said he has been offered by Nebraska and Oklahoma State in the past two weeks, and California did the same Monday. He said he's been told Notre Dame is about to offer, which gave Harper some pause. But the Cal offer stunned Harper, who said he has never received a piece of mail from the Bears. Meanwhile, he said he recently received nine handwritten letters from K-State....

I never said that it was bad.  I wonder who wrote those letters?

Thank God we got Cuba, Drinkgern, Woods, Bell, Hatman, Reed, Roepke & Rohleder the year before they instituted this new camp!

Butler's stated goal is too connect as many area kids with scholarships as possible.  He realizes that only a small percentage will be D1 prospects, but there are many other schools for those kids to play football at and get financial support for their educations.  Many of those kids may not have the financial ability to attend college otherwise, so it seems pretty neat he would help them in that regard.  (Yeah, I know that with student loans and grants, etc. basically everyone can afford college, but I don't feel some of the inner-city schools do as good a job finding funding for their kids secondary educations as they should, or could.)

You can't be racist and like basketball.
It sounds like this is an awesome idea by Butler that was pretty successful.

Now, if Butler could just convince the KSHSAA to allow spring football.....

Yeah, great idea if that is in fact his goal.  I hate to think he may have more selfish motives, but you do hear stories all the time about "handlers" and "advisors" for kids like the Browns and Harper not being the most ethical people...

You rarely hear about/remember the good ones, though.

Ex.:  Curtis Malone saying Gilchrist should honor his VaTech commitment.

Very true.  For the handful of negative cases you hear about, there are thousands of good cases.  Plus, Butler is an alum of the school I went to, comes from a good family, and for all outward appearances seems to be a really good guy.  I'll put my neck out there and say he is in it for the right reasons.
