i agree with your larger point c1, but also with rusty's copout.  i'm neither comfortable or uncomfortable with recruiting exclusive of beasley/walker.  i think the only rational response is wait-and-see until the fall signing period.  if ksu doesn't get multiple top 150 commits this fall, there will be reason to worry.

Likely a couple of years is all we'll have if this staff can recruit because, if we win big next year, then have a good class and another good season, Hill and maybe Oppenheimer will both have some interest for head jobs.

My hand is raised, however Bennett leaving (if this indeed happens) is already a Wooly like red flag.  We have yet to see what a Martin lead team can do with the talent he has.  So if I am uncomfortable at all it's with his ability to win.  If Huggins was still here, I'd have no concerns even if he never got a 5 star player over the next 10 years.  I like Wooly, so I danced around this statement for a while, but here's the straight truth: Wooly is a loser.  Wooly would not win even with Beasley and Walker.  If Wooly was the coach next year with the same roster, I would predict a .500 conference season at best.  Wooly wouldn't have a a winning record with Florida's recruiting.  It's just not in him.  Recruiting wasn't the issue...being a loser was.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
First, thoughout the events of the past year, we've learned that our 2007 relationships are very, very strong.  So strong, in fact, that the only type of relationship between a coach and a player that would probably be stronger is paternal.  Given that relationships come in varying degrees, the odds simply say that our 2008 relationships are not as great in force.  Second, the strongest of the 2007 relationships are greater in quantity that the strongest of the 2008 relationships.  Finally, and most importantly, there's no real reason to doubt that the 2007 relationships are strong enough to bring the players in.  We can't say that about the 2008 relationships.  And if there is a real reason to doubt something (e.g. there is a possibility that Kadji may decide that he wants to stay closer to home), you can't take it for granted.

Oh, didn't realize post-Wooldridge recruiting stopped in 2008.

Sys summed it up nicely.  If there aren't any top 150 players signed in the fall, I'll be concerned with recruiting.  Until that point, it's stupid to worry about it, just like it's stupid to worry about how well Martin makes in-game adjustments before we've seen him coach a game.

BTW, did you know DC Assault has 9U teams?

Cute!

LOL.  You saw the part about how I'd be concerned if we didn't have a top 150 or two signed in the fall, right?

What, exactly, has you concerned?  The fact that we won't get Top 10 recruits every year?

I think he's being very motherly.  Doesn't want the kids to get their hopes up.  It's cute really.

people seem to be taking for granted

people seem to be taking for granted

Remeber, I'm just talking about not taking things for granted at this point.

I'm making a very mundane point.

you can't take it for granted.

I think everything I've said is perfectly consistent with taking a wait-and-see approach.  This just wouldn't be GPC West without people being overly defensive, would it?

Absolutely, we all have to take a wait and see approach because that will tell us the most.  The only problem with that is that we then have to wait and see....its May, what are we supposed to talk about until football begins??  So, someone starts and inane conversation, and we all throw in whatever take we have on it.  Usually the topic will get at least two schools of thought and we all get to throw out any comments we want.  It's entertaining and keeps the boards going.  BTW, this is a good time of year to get some articles from J-Mart or HowRich on off season training, how Popcorn Walker is looking on his J, when the new guys will hit town, what type of programs the coaches will have then doing in the offseason, what camps, etc. the players are going to?

    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.
