Jeter off to see .. Kansas State

Lance Jeter may be changing sports, but after spending one year playing college football in Ohio, he might not be moving to a new state to play college basketball.
Then again, depending on how this weekend works out, Jeter might just find himself playing hoops in the land of Dorothy, Toto and the Tin Man.
Jeter will fly today to Kansas to look at two schools that are among his final three choices to play college basketball. Jeter will visit Kansas State and Hutchinson Junior College this weekend while also considering a scholarship offer from the University of Akron.
Jeter played basketball and football at Beaver Falls and was one of the top two-sport athletes in the state in the Class of 2006. After numerous scholarship offers in both sports, he ultimately chose to play football for the University of Cincinnati.
After one season with the Bearcats, however, Jeter has decided to pursue basketball, leaving Cincinnati and re-opening his recruitment process.
Jeter visited Akron recently and was offered a scholarship.
"Akron's a good school," Jeter said.
Kansas State has not made an offer as of yet, but got into the recruiting picture with Jeter last week.
"I'm going out to see about Hutchinson (Junior College)," Jeter said. "Kansas State wants me to go by there so we could talk and they could take a look at me. I'm going to take my visits and then come back on Saturday and hopefully make a decision soon."
If Jeter transfers to an NCAA Division I program, he would have to sit out the basketball season due to the transfer rule and have three years of eligibility.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Jeter was a four-year starter at Beaver Falls and averaged 20.2 points per game as a senior. He finished his career with 2,243 points, the 13th-highest total in WPIAL history.
Jeter is just anxious to get his decision behind him.
"It's been a lot of pressure on me and my family," Jeter said. "I just want to get my visits done and make my decision wisely and do what I feel is best for me and my future."

Basketball was a big part of Lance Jeter's past. Now he wants it to be part of his future.
Jeter, a former standout athlete at Beaver Falls High School, has left the University of Cincinnati football team because he wants to play basketball at another college.
Jeter left Cincinnati a few days ago and is back home in Beaver Falls. He attended Cincinnati on a football scholarship and was redshirted last season. A receiver, Jeter was participating in spring football drills until a few days ago.
"I've been thinking about it for a while," Jeter said. "I wasn't used to not being able to play basketball. I want to go back to it."
Jeter said he would like to play Division I college basketball and has "been in contact" with a few schools. Akron recruited him for basketball when he was at Beaver Falls. If he goes to a Division I school, he will not be eligible to play next season and will have three years of eligibility.
Jeter was the Post-Gazette Male Athlete of the Year for the 2005-06 school year. He was a talented football player, but was known more for his impact on Beaver Falls' basketball team. He averaged 20.2 points per game as a senior and scored 2,243 career points, 13th-best in WPIAL history. He was a two-time Fabulous Five selection.
Jeter has gotten bigger because of weightlifting at Cincinnati. He has added 20 pounds since his high school days and now is 6 feet 3, 225 pounds. He said he regularly played pickup games with the players on Cincinnati's basketball team.
"I was doing well [in football]," Jeter said. "But this is just what I felt I should do.
