The first five were secured before the current staff was in charge.  The latter members of the class are very Woolyesque. :ku:

Who recruited Beasley, Sutton, Pullen, and Brown?

Hint:  It wasn't Bob Huggins

Bob brought us Bennett (gee thanks  :yuck:) and Walker(Gee thanks! )

The rest is all Frank and Dalonte.

True, but that doesn't necessarily say much when there were only 3 or 4 top 100 players availible in the late period.

not in his last 2 years.  before that they did pretty well from around pasco through peete.  and unfortunately they had to do a ton of spring recruiting.

Very true. Wooly would possibly get 2 3 stars at beginning of recruitment. He would probably scouring the Ivory Coast this late in recruiting process.

Since its being discussed, you look at Wooly's classes from 01 through 04 and there is no reason he shouldn't have won more games.  5-6 players that were ~Top 50 JUCOs (DeJesus, Pasco, Spurlock, Richards, Massey, Williams), 3 Top 100 HS players (Hayden, Martin, Willingham), and 3 borderline Top 100 or so HS players (Harris, Stewart, Allen).  Probably not enough to win the league title, but plenty to compete for the 3rd to 5th spot in the league during that time period.  Too much attrition and too little getting those guys to go above and beyond and win those close games.

his 2005 class was the inverse of GRCOAT.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Yeah, after Hoskins and Wright there hasn't been much there.  Its really pretty amazing he was able to get those 2 in that class IMO.

The only really poor class Wooly had was his last one, when he was in lame duck status.  Even that class had Hoskins. Azcat is dead on the money when he says these three guys are Wooly type guys.  Actually, everyone in this class besides Walker and Beasley are Wooly type guys.  That includes Sutton.  Take out Beasley and Walker and this class isn't even in Wooly's top 3 classes.  That isn't a necessarily a bad thing.  If Martin gets the same results out of them that JW did...that is a bad thing.  Nothing is funnier than the myth that Wooldridge was a bad recruiter.  LOL at the people who think Jamar Samuels is better than anyone K-state recruited in the previous 6 years before Huggins arival.

I'm not trying to defend Wooly, nobody was happier than I to see him gone, but lets drop the revisionist history.  Without Huggins, we has still not signed a guy that is even above average for a Wooly recruit.

Like I said, in another thread.   This late in the game Wooldridge is scouring Ivory Coast Rec B Leagues, and god knows he would'nt have gotten a single high school kid with any real potential this late in the game either.

Exactly.  Hart was also RSCI top 100 out of highschool.  Even in his two worst classes (the first and last) he got Reid, Terry, Atchinson, Seabass, Hoskins, Afeli, Taybron & Wright.  That's a pretty decent team, with 2 all conference guys, that you can put together from his 2 worst classes.

Wooly's first couple of years he basically had two assistant coaches (Baker & Laing) on the road almost full-time to scout/recruit.  You better have a somewhat adequate class if you're doing that.
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

And the Big 12 (specifically the north) was stronger than it is now.  ISU, CU, MU (possibly even NU) were all better.  We were "improved" this year, but part of that was that we just didn't suck as much as the rest of the North.

Two five star, one four star, and four three star recruits in one class?  That is one hell of a great recruiting class folks!  Huggins NEVER had that good of a recruiting class in his entire 16 years at Cincinnati!  Martin addressed every need this team needs, including quality depth.  I am already excited to see this team play.  Too bad we have to wait six months...

The 5 stars (Top 10) are the key here, and really make the class.  Without those, this is not better than the Martin, Willingham, Harris, Massey (and others) class.  Wooly didn't get Top 50s.  He got plenty of very good JUCO players and quality HS kids, but not Top 50s, and definately not Top 10s.

My hope is that Martin, Hill and the rest can continue to get a couple Top 50s every other year and occasionally break through with the Top 10 kids.  That is going to be what makes a difference in this program IMO and whether or not Hill can be a successful long-term hire.

If Hill is successful at all he won't be a long-term hire, he'll be hitting the road for his own gig.  I give it two years.

Besides Jason Bennett, who else is leaving the team? The recruiting class was five strong to start with, and now three more recruits have been added. There are only two spots open. Where's the room going to come from?
