Junior guard Sean Ogirri received a release to transfer away from the Wichita State basketball program this morning, the university said in a statement. Also receiving releases from their national letters of intent were signees Denzel Bowles and Evann Baker.

The releases are different for players already in school and players who have not yet entered school. Ogirri may transfer to another Division I school, but would have to sit out the 2007-08 season before playing his final season in 2008-09.

No disagreement there. But I did like MT as our coach, but HCGM is an upgrade. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

I try to not post there anymore.  Awhile back it made sense because they were better than us.

saul, does no one try to flame the shocker board?  or do the moderators clean it up around the clock?
"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

Occasionally "GoddardCat" will.  The Valley is a more hand holding, loving conference.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

What a year for the Shockers.  From a Sweet 16 and an early season top 10 ranking to not even making the NIT, losing your coach, and seeing your team dismantled.  And they'll have to try to rebuild while the two best programs in their league keep their coaches and keep maintaining their programs.

Maybe they'll do that 2 for 1 now. :)

Gregg Marshall was eager to show a couple of reporters video footage of his first Wichita State recruit, Mantas Griskenas.

But he couldn't get the VCR to cooperate. He eventually asked for help, first from graduate assistant Dana Ford, then from a team manager.

Still no luck.

"Somebody's messed with the wires," a frustrated Marshall said.

Then Marshall, the Shockers' new basketball coach, noticed something: He had neglected to insert the tape.

"Might help if I put this in," he said. "It works better."

Now that's how you get out a f***ing blood stain.

Brett Burley, a Canadian playing basketball in South Carolina, has never visited Wichita. He's never wandered anywhere close to Kansas.

Gregg Marshall coaches at Wichita State, however, and that's good enough for Burley. He will be a recruited walk-on at WSU next season, coming to Kansas on the faith in Marshall.

"He knows my game more than anyone else," Burley said.
"What he did at Winthrop is amazing. I think I can grow with him more than most coaches."

Burley (6-foot-7, 235 pounds) says he had scholarship offers to schools such as Liberty and Radford. He chose to walk on at WSU, although he would prefer not to be known as a walk-on.

"I think I should be treated the same as anyone else,"
he said. "I think I can play at this level. I know it's going to be tough. I'm sure it will be a wakeup call for me. But I think I can make a difference there."

Burley is from Victoria, British Columbia. He wanted to catch the eye of NCAA Division I coaches, so he moved to Camden Military Academy in Camden, S.C. this year. A coach there called Marshall, then at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. Marshall liked Burley and offered him a walk-on spot at Winthrop.

When Marshall moved to WSU, Burley called and said he wanted to follow.

"We've made a commitment," Dave Burley, Brett's father, said. "We trust Gregg and we trust his program."

Brett Burley describes himself as an outside shooter.
He said he averaged around 15 points and eight rebounds at Camden.

"I play more like a guard than a post," he said. "I shoot a lot."

The Burley family may visit Wichita later this month, after Brett graduates from Camden. That will be their first look at the city and university.

"I know the way he's been talking about it, I'm going to like it," Brett Burley said.
When I was a kid growing up in the projects, I used to dream of going into space, of escaping the slums, of killing an Ewok!

Sounds like WSU's version of Marcus Hayes.  Good luck with that.

The last couple days have only shown how badly we messed up by hiring Martin/Hill and the rest.  We would've been much better off going with a rising low major coach like the Shockers.   :-[

I think FM and DH really made a statement about recruiting by landing JS and VD.

who will hate ksu more in 2-3 years, mu or wsu?  both look to be watching highly qualified, highly paid, undoubtably wonderful coaches get passed by a high school coach with recruiting connections.
