Not only do we start conference play on the road AGAIN (like 10th time in a row) but we'll be playing @Texas, who's not gonna be too friendly to us.  The weekend immediately after is against ku, who will have had two weeks to prepare by that time while we're still recovering from the Texas game.  And having the Fresno game at the end of the year, wtf?

The conference start on the road has always bewildered me.  Does that mean the butt buddies of the Big XII get 10 home games to start conference in a row?

Why does it matter all that much if we start on the road, ya' gotta play 'em all?

No the schedule doesn't line up all that well, but this is what happens when you try to upgrade it...you lose flexibility.  Mangino uses the Snyder technique in this regard and he's able to line up the open dates.

We play Fresno State at the end of the year so we can be on ESPN. That is a good move IMO..

And he's able to save his job

You left out the fact that we have a bye week right before Texas to help prepare.  If that bye week in scheduling gets us a win over UT again, the scheduling would look brilliant.  How bad ass would it be to beat Texas in back to back years and have them sit on those losses for at least three years?

If we do pull that game off, I demand a youtube entitled "Texas=KSTATE'S bitch"

I also like Auburn in game 1.  If we got to play them and play them on the road, the first game of the season is the best time to do it.  Fresno is good just because it's on ESPN.  ku having two weeks is the only thing that sucks, IMO, but we got them at home and they won't have Cornish.  We should win that by 2 TDs.
Show me defense.

I agree with the complaints about opening conference play on the road so many consecutive years.  IIRC, the last time we won that opener on the road was CU in 2000.  I know that all conference schools have to play similar schedules, but that game has set us behind and set the tone for the rest of the season on a few different occasions.  KSU better get a whole grip of home openers real soon.

You guys are missing the biggest one.   We have 6 home games.   That's right;  6.  Season ticket holders?  you wanna keep your donar points; Keep your seats?  Buying season tickets this year is $300 per seat for 6 games.  I had no problem doing that last year for 8 games.  but come on.

So, for a guy like me -- 2 sets of season tickets -- my wife and I;  I'm paying $600 for the season -- That's a Hundred dollar bill per game.  Hard to justify when you live on a budget.

I'll still be there every week, but I won't be paying $100 per visit.

Look at it from a positive standpoint, that's two trips you won't have to spend gas money, food and beverage money, and subsequent hangover the next day.

Moreover, the schedule looks like crap too.  Baylor, ku, MU, CU for conference games.  Hard to get too excited when your best game is a toss up between Mizzou and kansas

One of the main reasons I like the Snyder scheduling philosophy.
Winning is the other one.

Opening @ Auburn makes little sense unless your an established team coming off a 10 or 11 win season with a foundation already established. I had zero problem with opening @ USC in 2001 (We were coming off a Cotton Bowl win) and had Scobey, Rock, A. Lockett, Newman, Pierce, Buhl, etc... Fresh off huge losses to Rutgers and ku to close the 2006 season it seems crazy to open with such a game. Chances of winning are minimal, the game is not a national ESPN telecast and we lose a home game in the process. The beauty of the Coach Snyder scheduling philosophy, was that you play teams you can beat and THEN when YOUR established, you can take a chance with a big time (IOWA, USC, CAL) opponent from a BCS Conference.

Cal had a great 2003 season, bowl team. USC had a bowl season, and had a future Heisman leading them with plenty of other NFL type players.  I don't know how Iowa did in 2000, but they had some good seasons right after that.

The only thing that makes sense out of this scheduling of Auburn, is that we have a very tough Conference road schedule.  This game better lead to a win in a couple of those games, or else it is foolish IMO.  It should be on TV, but that could be a double edged sword.  If we are down by 40 in the 3rd Q, I will be doing some drunken lawn work b/c I won't want to have anything to do with that.

So what you're saying is we need to schedule people that aren't necessarily good when we schedule them, but schedule them in a year that we can beat them AND they can go on to have either a heisman winner or a successful season that same year and many more to follow....

I'm all for that!   I hear the Idaho Vandals are going to be making a NC run in 2009... lets get them on the schedule for next year.
