The easy answer is b/c I was born between the two games, but why have I not heard of this?

I don't know.  Those were pretty significant/infamous.

Luckily JTKSU was able to defend/cover up the K-state involvement for the most part, so most of the blame was placed on angry ku fans.  The truth is it was really MJ's fault.

I see, was anyone there?  I hear MJ can get a bit out of control at times, good thing we have upstanding citizens like JT to help guide us to the light of a greater KSU.

That would be pre Snyder and pre 30 game non-win streak.  Most people don't remember much from the era of 2-3 wins and we are happy.  I attended both riots  :ohno: and even helped some of the stores clean up broken glass after the second one.

some poor students VW bug got turned upside down.   Some windows broke, I don't remember being too concerned about saftety, we definitely don't do it up like Detroit.  As I remember a lot of the blame was put on HS kids -probably tennis players.  The year after the second riot was hilarious as they had fenced in aggieville with checkpoints to just get into the area.

Or MJROD although he would have been a sophmore for the first riot.

An the tear gas shot into the crowd during #2, I believe, was pretty nasty.

The college kids blamed the high school kids and the high school kids blamed the GIs, who blamed the college students, specifically the Greeks. It was a combination of all + too much booze.

I think it was the crowd from Riley (not the Fort)

I was there. 84 was my sophomore year, and was in Aggieville when it happened. I honestly think it has grown in legend over the years. There weren't any real safety issues that I remember. My roommate said a bunch of people rushed a convenience store, started grabbing beer, and chips, and stuff. My roommate, ever a forward thinking person, grabbed gallons of milk, cold cuts, and bread...we ate like kings for a few weeks.

We should institute either KSU history or Aggieville history as a required course much like the Texans and their high school "Texas History" requirement.

ROTFLMAO - I can see it now a couple of drunk college students running down the street with bread and milk under their arms

I was still in grade school.  The main thing I remember is the pictures of the VW bug that was rolled over.

We made fun of him at first...but then quickly saw the wisdom in his action the next day!

Someone posted a link to a HUGE PDF that had the entire history of Aggieville, from the beginning to present. It was many pages.  I think it was here..i'll try and find it.

It was a report on campus college life, or something like that.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

We were laughing at the bug when it was rolled mainly because there was much anticipation that a second riot might occur, and the streets were almost void of all cars, except for a lonely little beetle.  You felt sorry for the poor owner but what where they thinking? :banghead:

My boss was one of the ku alums arrested in the second riot... I hold it over him quite often.  That was the year that Kite's burnt down... correct?

Bah, over blown.  We used to party hard then.  I remember running down the street with 30-40 people holding part of the goal post and ripping into cars.  No wait that was my car.   Anyway.. yeah with a 18 drinking age the party after a victory (they were very hard to come by then ) was intense.  There were a few times my friends and I would party somewhere other than aggieville to avoid the "mess". :frown:
