what was the one KSU had in 1955 for?  I can't remember.  Our school seems to be one of the few in the big 12 to keep its nose clean....therefore, I don't keep up on that sort of thing. :D

Because you have historically cheated 5x more than KSU.  All of that cumulative cheating over time results in greatness.  You are now enjoying the fruits of many many years of ignoring the rules.  We hope to get there someday, but in order to do so, we really need to crank up the cheat-mobile.

It really had less to do with basketball than it did with football.  I think that basketball was simply thrown in there.  A booster group known as the "Wildcat Club" was paying for transportation and entertainment among other things.  That was over half a century ago, however.
