...3 years ago if I were to tell you that in a few years K-State's head basketball coach and head football coach would be Frank Martin and Ron Prince?

I think that I would have laughed.

Who?

That's what I said when Ron was hired.  Except there was a curse word in there as well.

What would be the percentage of the people who didn't even know which guy belonged to which sport?  I'd be among them.
"Kids used to hit him and stab him with pencils," says Harley Bennett, Jason's father. "Finally I told him he had to stick up for himself. Jason is not a violent person. One day he hit one of the kids back and got suspended."

I couldn't have told you that the day Snyder retired.

Either:

GOOD!

or,

Weiser needs to realize his little experiment isn't working (Prince).

Good question...

3 years from now, means nothing.  We could be begging for an extension or forming a lynch mob to run them out of town.  6 years from now, means good things because they were not only successful and offered extentions, but decided to stay put.

FWIW, I don't think Martin will stay for longer than 5 years.  If he does well, he'll probably head home back to a Florida school.  If he fails we won't extend.  Could be wrong obviously.

Prince on the other hand, could be a lifer, even if he is mildly successful.  I don't think he has to be Snyder.  If he does as at least as good as he did last year the majority of the time, i think he'll be here as long as he wants to be.  I think we'd take 8 wins/per year for the rest of his career if he can do it.

Definitely...I don't think he'll be the "wildly successful or crash-n-burn" type everyone predicted he'd be.  I think he'll be consistently mediocre.

I think we're going to win around 7-8 games with Prince (any self-respecting program should anyways), which won't be enough after year 5 or 6.

Are you thinking the next McCarney?

I think that would probably be the best guess for what Prince might become.

If a K-State football coach makes 6 bowls in a row and gets fired, then the AD should be fired within minutes of that.

Slightly better than McCarney - I don't think he has many 3 win (or less) seasons in him.

Been saying for a while now that I think KSU just became a consistently inconsistent mediocre program when Bill jetted on the baby.

I love that we hired Prince and Martin

Actually, I don't think either Martin or Prince are lifers, though, I would think Martin has the possibility of staying longer. If he can coach and is successful here, it will be his program, no one else's.
Prince, I've always thought, would eventually move to the NFL. I've just always gotten the sense that he wants to be an NFL head coach, don't ask me why. The counter argument is that every coach has NFL aspirations, and while a few are even given such a chance, few succeed.
If Prince is successful (meaning he isn't fired), I could see him at K-State 10 years. Of course, the more success he has, the more opportunities he has to leave. On the other side, if Prince isn't successful, if Season 1 is the norm (7-6 record, bowl loss), I think there's going to be a strong desire to try something else.
As for Prince choosing to leave on his own, I wonder if he ever considers what he would have to accomplish at K-State to make the football program his own, and not Snyder's. Short of a national championship, I'm not sure Prince can win enough to elevate himself over Snyder in K-State football history.
In the least, what I hope Prince can do, is build on the foundation Snyder started, create some traditions that K-State is lacking in and add K-State's name to the national discourse every season. The next football head coach will be the one with the chance at immortality.

Prince would never leave. He sold his sole and career to k-state following a guy like snyder and growing up in kansas.

If he fails here, his career =  :onthecan:

Don't you mean - Soul?  I don't think the bottom of his shoe is worth anything to most people.  LOL....
Anyhow, I could see both points...he really wanted to coach at KState and I feel he wants to stay here a long time but, I also see that if the opp comes up...he will go to NFL (but, I don't see that happening for a long time...like 10 plus years)

I would have said, "Frank Martin, who's that?"  Then I'd say, "Why did we get rid of Wooldridge?"  And whoever I was talking to would say, "Who?"

stunner, you always  look over my points.  KANSAS FANS CARE ABOUT 1 THING AND 1 THING ONLY, BASKETBALL.  I am not talking about the big 12, i am talking about us kansas fans, and i am just fine with mangino as long as i can get drunk and watch a competitive team that has a chance to win the game, which for the most part, save the texas game, we do have a chance to win every game.
