If you could have ONE former wildcat on this years team..

Yep, another pointless thread that has no relevance to anything in reality.  But welcome to the offseason!

If you could have one former wildcat on this years team, who would it be and why?

It's a tough decision.  I want to say Sproles, but 04 showed that not even he could produce much with a crappy O-line.  Bishop somewhat flaked out after leaving K-state and we never saw if he would be able to be as good as he was without an amazing line in front of him.  Roberson?  Possibility, but he also had a pretty good O-line in front of him and we don't know how he would have done without it.  I want to say an offensive lineman, but really how much of a difference could one great lineman make when the rest are mediocre at best?  And what about a good fullback?  I don't think we have a real fullback even on our roster this year.

Maybe on the defensive side?  One of the things that made our defenses so good a few years back was because we could trust our corners to take on the receivers one on one and then allow the safeties and linebackers to concentrate on stopping the run.  That's something we've obviously been bad at since Prince took over, just see the Rutgers and ku game.

And yet if we had a better defensive line then we wouldn't need to leave our corners on an island.


All that being said, I'd probably narrow it down to two choices:
If an offensive player: Beasley.  Why Beasley?  I think he was the smartest of all our good quarterbacks.  Maybe if you dug way back to Lynn Dickey, but I wasn't alive to see him play(even professionally) so I can't really make that decision.  I think Beasley, while not necessarily being the most talented QB I've seen wearing a k-state uniform, made the best decisions.  And with a crappy line, I think he'd be the best choice, especially when taking into consideration that James Johnson and Leon Patton are pretty good backs IMO and don't really have anything to do with our offensive troubles.

If a defensive player: Newman.  Why?  If we have good corners to lock down the receivers, we can use the safeties and linebackers to concentrate more on the run, which would make our defense insanely better than it was last year.

I'm basing mine on the system that Prince wants to run.  This is going to be what we sink or swim with, so might as well base it on reality.  

Offense: Todd Weiner or Damion McIntosh.  Its clear this is going to be a zone team and progression passing team, so an NFL caliber tackle to protect his backside is probably the best possible player right now.  Also help seal the edge for the outside zone scheme to free up Johnson and Patton.  My 2nd choice would be a playmaker at WR, perhaps Quincy Morgan or Kevin Lockett as a possession guy.

Defense: I'm back and forth on this one.  I would tend to lean toward the great DTs we've had, but its tough to say who would translate best to NT.  Then you could look at S, b/c it looks like the safeties will be playmakers in the run game like in the past this year.  Someone like Rashad Washington, Lamar Chapman, or Jon McGraw.  But I'd probably settle on a playmaker at ILB, and likely Mark Simoneau or Terry Pierce would be guys that could do well in the middle of the 3-4.

I'm in the camp with _Fan on offense  I choose a stud OT like MacIntosh.  On defense, I have to go with a stud DT to put at the noseguard position.  Unfortunately, I can't come up with names of these since its been a few years since we had one.  But, if someone can throw out a few names, I'll be able to pick my choice.  Terry Pierce would be my second choice.  I think our skill positions are OK...other than a gamebreaking WR.  Our corners may be OK, we just played too much of that soft zone/cover 2 that gave up all those yds.  Hopefully, we'll attack more on defense and then we can really see if our corners are good.

Those are the ones...thanks Fan.  I think Colston is probably the one but I am going off memory and, honestly, they kind of blend together in my mind.  I would guess as a noseguard, we probably need the largest of the two to take up a double team, but they were both aggressive playmakers from the DT position.

Fatefehi, guy was a stud and would do wonders for the D with the DE's ability. Although LB will be a real issue this year IMO, so maybe kelly or simoneau.
Offense, give me morgan. Heck, if the o-line can't block, then run some wr screens to him, that'd probably be good for at least a td every game.
