ESPNs spring analysis:

After the first week of practice, coach Ron Prince has been pleased with his team's early work. "Our conditioning has held up, we've been able to get a lot more plays in and at a higher tempo than we have up to this point last season," Prince said. "I'm very encouraged by that." K Brooks Rossman has emerged to claim a "slight edge" over Tim Schwerdt in the battle to replace K Jeff Snodgrass, Prince said. QB Josh Freeman had his moments in the Wildcats' first work in end-of-game situations in the two-minute offense. "From a coverage standpoint, as well as a passing and protection standpoint, it was very challenging for both groups, which is a positive for me," Prince said. "Neither of the coordinators were very happy, so that's probably a good thing." Prince doesn't hesitate to bring up his team's ultimate goal throughout spring practice. "We've got terrific chemistry on this team," Prince said. "I really like how we're working toward the real objective, which is to find ourselves in San Antonio for the championship game." WR Jordy Nelson credited some of that unity from the team's intensive offseason workouts. "I think we had a great showing," Nelson said. "The quarterbacks and receivers stayed after a lot and threw a lot of balls. I think that really helped out a lot going into the spring." Prince has been intrigued by the early battle for the starting quarterback job between Freeman and incoming sophomore Carson Coffman. "I think from a technical standpoint, as far as knowing the plays and understanding coverages that Josh clearly has a leg up on Carson because of being here last spring," Prince said. "But from a confidence standpoint, it's very hard to shake either one of them." Former KSU offensive lineman John Hafferty had an interesting quote after quitting the team last week. "I consider it to have been a great privilege and an honor to have played for coach [Bill] Snyder and Kansas State, and I will always be grateful to him, his former staff and the university for giving me that opportunity," Hafferty said in a prepared release. Hafferty played as a true freshman in 2004, but saw his playing time diminish last season. He made two starts at right guard, but was off the team's two-deep roster by the time the season concluded.

A lot more excitement from the players.  They're working harder, staying after practice on their own time, and there's a general sense of team unity.  They've had better workouts and attendance to the workouts in the offseason than they've had since any of the current players have been there.

And it looks like there's a few of Snyders players that never bought into Prince.  The sooner they're gone, the better IMO.  Keep the guys like Jordy and Watts and Campbell who are excited and working hard, get rid of the guys who are complaining and not buying in.

I"ve read this before, and although it might just be hype, it's refreshing.  Especially considerring all the nay-sayers that post on this forum, offering up their "why bother we're just gonna suck" mentality.

Prince is a diplomatic speaker, whether at a recruits home or at a Catbacker banquet.   He's got experience on many levels which has given him a great football education.     He brings in a youthful atmosphere to Vanier.     He's proven he can motivate lesser players to overachieve.     We've seen a glimmer of recruiting prowess :hope:  Maybe last year was a fluke, I don't think so.  We're going to see some great things from Prince, but some of us have chosen to start the lynching process after only one-and-a-half years.  Let the man do his job, that alone will prove his worth hig or low.  Many of the players have bought into/respect him.  Why don't we?

Players like Evridge or Hafferty?

Right.  If you're a Snyder player who is whining, dragging your feet, or not buying in, there's the door.

    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Not awful, just not good at running the ball, or throwing for yds, completions, and touchdowns.

PASSING     GP     Effic     Cmp-Att-Int     Pct      Yards      TD     Long     Avg/G
Evridge, Allan    9      104.44  102-213-7   47.9         1365           6        80      151.7

Freeman, Josh  11     103.5     140-270-15     51.9     1780            6     74     161.8

Not too much difference.  Evridge had more TDs/reps and a lot less picks.  Freeman had more yards and better completion %.  For everyone wanting to bash Evridge and crown Freeman, I don't see that big of a difference.  That said, I think Freeman has a much bigger upside.

I agree with the upside.

Evridge was certainly not horrible... He was willing to change positions in order to contribute...

Not from what I was hearing.  I think the quote was "I don't think there's anything I can do to be a starter at quarterback."  So he left.  Understandable.

It was for the best too.  It was pretty clear Evridge was in the same "group" as Boss and Hafferty.  A group that didn't ever buy in to Prince.

Good kid.  Hot fiance (Stacey from the volleyball team  )  But it's good that he's not at K-state.

Freeman beat texas, and won 4 big 12 games.  AE also had 2 years in an established system, Freeman had to lead an offense that ran around like it's head was cut off most of the time.

And cire is right.  QB's are ultimately judged on wins and losses.

Freeman went 4-4 games as a starter.  (Texas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Colorado.)  Everidge won what, one?  Missouri?

We haven't really had a huge talent shift between 04-06 either.

When did I say that Freeman is better than AE?...

Alright...

You heard wrong, AE was willing to change positions because it was evident that he wasn't going to get a chance at QB and he went to Prince and talked to him. He told him that he would be willing to change positions because he wanted to help his team, and he told him that he was frustrated that he wasn't getting the opportunity to do so.

He came the next day and his locker was cleaned out...

AE beat ku, not MU

Well that sucks for AE if true, but it's still better for him to be in Wisconsin.

I could have sworn Allen Webb started the ku game.

the 05 ku game was won by the defense.

Or rather ku's horrible offense.

Keep in mind, this was Mangino's best year.  7 wins, one of them being at a bowl game.  They couldn't even score a touchdown in Manhattan.

Sounds like the players bought in, and are really enjoying themselves too.

I really like where this is headed.  At least if the offensive line can hold up.

'stunner, quit saying the things I want to say before I say them!  But it's true, if our line shows some strides towards decency, they could have a pretty good year.  I still say 8 wins this year, but if our line gives Freeman some time to throw against Auburn's defense, I might bump it up to nine or 10.  If we beat them, holy s@#%, N.C. BABY!!
