you're right. unpopular thought.

I think Martin might turn out to be a very good basketball coach. I think we should give him and Dalonte a 4 year contract, and pay the HC about 600k, and the assistant like 300k(it'd more than triple his salary and should be enough to keep him.) Both seem to be excellent recruiters, and recruiting seems to be the name of the game nowadays. If you can recruit, you win, regardless of the x's and o's.
Then when they both leave in three years where do we go?
We should never hire anyone because they "might" leave in three years. We should only go for old home run coaches who'll only be around for four maybe five years and they're gone.
You guys that keep talking like this miss what you have right in front of you. How many times have we heard the statement "WE NEED TALENT" ? We have the #1 recruiting class signed with us, right now. The two coaches that pulled this off are still at K-State. They may not have the credentials of a home run because they haven't done that yet, but they need to start. Huggins has already said both of those coaches are responsible for part of the coaching job that made Wooly's recruits go 23-12.
Now, I may not be a basketball magician, but I hear a lot of people argue "It's coaching" vs. "It's talent." My belief is, it's both and sometimes, we have a tendency to find diamonds in the rough on both sides. I would like to see Martin and Hill retained EVEN if it's for a couple of years with one of them a HC while we have this talent in our hands. Do you not see what we could do with this talent? Easily 20-25 wins and a birth. We may or may not beat ku but at this point, I'm willing to let those two guys continue to develop the foundation. The chances of this team with this talent and those two eager young coaches could do NO WORSE than bringing in a home run hire, watching our #1 class fall to pieces and perhaps.. maybe we'd get a similar record as this year.
I'm looking down the line. A team with this much talent MIGHT get us back on track because if we can get Beasley Sutton Pullen at KSU, and get them going, then it might also mean other top recruits will want to play with them and allow that talent draw to keep us going. Do I hear that we don't want more talent here? Give me a break people. Now is the time to parlay this group into a successful stepping stone. If Huggins turned us into one, I suggest we fight back as one and build our destiny. How many of you "coaching geniuses" think we need to get rid of our talent so bad for a long term coach?
BTW: Make the Hill/Martin connection financially difficult for other schools when they try to lure them away.
