Grant is a hot young coach.   I want Martin/Hill to take the reigns over..... but Grant would be a great option B

Would HCAG/Martin/Hill work?

Martin and Grant have a history, and Dalonte might like the appeal of working for a relatively young black head coach.

I guarantee Grant's the only non-home run hire Martin, and probably Dalonte, would consider working for.

Would martin/hill consider working for anyone but each other?  And I wouldn't think that martin would be too keen on working for a hill.

What home run hire is out there and realistic?  Montgomery?  Lon already said no.  No way Crean comes.

I can easily see Martin and Hill being separated.

Do you really believe Lon?  I know that Crean is ridiculous.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Yes, I believe Lon.  All we need to do is keep Hill as an assistant coach.

I think Grant is very interesting.

Clearly you have to like the situations he's worked under, and he went into VCU and had an immediated impact.

The impact he had was with someone else's players, however, the guys he inherited bought in and he can recruit on his own as evidenced at Florida.

Sometime I want to look into his impact on the 2004 Florida class.  I got unbanned from phog today, so I'll be busy with my guilty pleasure.

Wow, this would be the perfect scenario for K-State:  hire Anthony Grant as head coach, retain Frank Martin and Delonte Hill as assistants.  K-State might actually be even better off than you were with the Chugster.

I doubt it happens, I think the only way we keep martin/hill is martin as head and hill as assistant.  I doubt martin would work for hill.  If Martin wants another assistant job, he would probably follow huggs

Anthony Grant pretty much has the exact same resume as Stan Heath did when he got hired at Arkansas.  He has been a head coach for 1 year.  You have no idea if he can recruit as a head coach and run a program with his own players, and you have no idea if he can do it at a Big 12 level.  He's not quite as much of an unknown as Martin, but he's close.

Grant may turn out to be a good coach, but you don't have a guy with his resume as option #1.

We get the point.  But playing the "safe" route and getting a top coach or holding out for one isn't an option either.   Every coach has the same chance for success as failure, some are better at success.   They must start somewhere.  Given our situation, we could probably attract quite a number of very good candidates.

Grant's been a head coach for one year, Huggins for many.  My only point was to not give him full credit for VCU's success, since he won this year with other's recruits.  I was also pointing out he's been recruiting for Donovan for 12 years and this aspect of his credentials should not be of concern.

Here is the timeline, from what I can gather FWIW.

Frank Martin:
Miami SR High AC 85-93
N Miam SR High HC 93-95
Miami SR High HC 95-99
Booker T Wash HC 99-00

Anthony Grant:
Miami SR High AC 87-92
Miami SR High HC 92-95

So they were assistants together 5 years and he was Grant's assistant for 1.

If he can recruit all those guys to Florida as an assistant coach, why wouldn't he be able to do it as a head coach?  Turns out he recruited at a National Championship level while he was at Florida.  I just don't see many better options for K-State, unless you want a has-been coach who is relegated to coaching in Conference USA or working as an analyst for ESPN.

Stan Heath did the same thing at Michigan State and then went to Kent St and won for one season with somebody else's players.  Grant might be a great coach, but he has done nothing that Stan Heath didn't do before going to Arkansas.

Arkansas made a big mistake by firing Stan Heath.  The guy just took them to the NCAA tournament and was fired before he even had a chance to coach his best team.

    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

He took them to the tournament, but he also went below .500 in the SEC West where there were absolutely no good teams.  The SEC West this year was what the Big 12 North would be if Kansas and Baylor switched divisions.

He got a really nice draw in the SEC tourney and made the finals beating a bunch of mediocre teams.  They were the last team to make the tournament.

Firing Heath may have been a mistake, but he wasn't setting the world on fire down there by any stretch.
