Look, I dislike K-State and the majority of the Wildcat fanbase just as much as anybody.  However, with the departure of Huggins, this will open up the door for someone who truly wants to be at K-State.  Just like when Roy left ku for UNC, everyone's biggest fear was that our program would never recover.  Now, you guys can joke and take shots all you'd like, but Bill Self is the perfect fit for our program.  The same thing is going to happen with K-State.  While in the short term, it hurts like hell to lose a great coach like Bob Huggins, the best thing for K-State and your basketball program is to find a coach who truly wants the best for K-State.

Maybe now isn't the best time to attempt rational discussion, but come on guys.  K-State was a darn good basketball program long before Huggins ever came around.  There is a coach out there just waiting for the opportunity to coach a Big 12 program like K-State.  With a solid nucleus already in place, the K-State job is much, much better than it was just a year ago, and you guys managed to hire Bob Huggins, one of the winningest active coaches in college basketball.  I have no doubt that K-State can make another good hire, and continue to build on the success that you had this past season.

Just a week ago, it was us Jayhawk fans who had the wind knocked out of us after a tough loss to UCLA in the Elite Eight.  This is just the way it goes when you have so much invested into a university that you love with all your heart.  K-State deserves better than Bob Huggins, and everyone outside of Manhattan knew that all along.  Your program is bigger than any individual, regardless of their popularity.

All is not lost, Wildcats.  Keep your chin up.

BMW I appreciate the effort but...

This isn't comparable to Roy leaving ku.
Before Roy, ku had just won a National Championship and had several years of successful ball w/ Larry Brown.
People knew and believed in your program.  If Self didn't come in, another big name coach would have.

We've been the doormat for 20 years, people don't know our history and will revert back to believing the misconceptions of not being able to recruit to Manhattan, not being able to win in Manhattan, that our fans don't care about basketball, etc.

The ripple effect of Huggins leaving could potentially be felt for a long, long time.
Overall this is much worse than when Williams left for UNC, don't compare the two.

Now we wait.  We wait until uk finds their coach, and Arkansas finds their coach, and any other team out there that needs one who's name isn't KSU finds their coach.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

The poll on ESPN says otherwise.

It actually gives the Big 12 a fairly big black eye. Wvu wasn't exactly outstanding and they plucked a relatively big name coach from our conference in a few days.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

Good post, and I agree, to a point.  If KSU manages to hire a coach that wants to be here and is good for the program, all the while managing to keep the majority of these recruits to bridge the gap, then, yes, K-State will be fine.  If however, KSU makes a short-sighted hire and has one to two good seasons and flames out, or KSU loses the majority of the incoming recruits, it will be just like the Cat Cannon constructed by the engineering department had a tragic accident in the confines of Bramlage during its conversion over to nuclear power.

Basically, if KSU loses Martin/Harris/Afeli/Wright (to graduation) and Beasley/Walker/Pullen/Sutton/Brown/Evans/Bennett (to defections) it would be the kind of devastation that it would take years to recover from.  That's 11 scholarship players in a calendar year.

All that would be left would be Stewart/Hoskins/Young/Colon/Kent/Yearby and some walk-ons.  Or essentially, we would be left with this.  Once again, devastating.

So, essentially, chin up?  I think I'll wait and see.

The only thing I'm comparing between Roy leaving for UNC and Huggins to WVU is that in the long run, it's best for both schools to find a coach who truly wants the best for their program.  I'm confident that K-State will find their very own Bill Self.  I'd rather have a guy who wants to be here than a guy who is constantly thinking about leaving for his alma mater.

Wait this out, see what happens.  You still have the #1 recruiting class coming in, and a bunch of good coaches out there who would love the opportunity to coach in the Big 12.  My choice, if I were ADTW, would be to hire former Florida assistant and current VCU coach Anthony Grant.  The guy out-coached Coach K in the NCAA Tournament and is one of the best young coaches out there.

When all is said and done, I think K-State's best years are still to come.

    The very best.
Roy left ku with 4 MC AA's and 15 years of awesome basketball.

Huggins left us with the 4th largest NCAA drought still intact and the ku streak still alive.

Not to mention...he...gave...us..ONE...year.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

In all non-flaming honesty, this is a tough blow. It's going to take a couple years to recover, but I agree with BMW...from a long-term standpoint, it's for the best. Even the most ardent KSU supporter couldn't have thought Huggins was going to make a career out of it. May as well find the right fit and move on. In my opinion, for what it's worth, I truly think it's a mistake to make a stop-gap hire like Hill...even if you risk losing Beasley. Beasley was going to be in town for 1 year tops, anyway. Better to sacrifice one year of Top 25 ball and get State back on track to a consistently solid program.

Wow, BMW figured out the sarcasm game and is using it back on us.  Well played, well played.

You guys don't need someone like Huggins. That's just frank honesty. Huggins, while a sound basketball coach, isn't a good human being. This is the truth given what has now happened to you guys. I could say a lot of things, but Huggins wasn't here for the good of the K-state program. He was only at K-state for himself as a way to get back into coaching before he found a new job that he really wanted.

It's a shame he cannot see the potential, especially with the line-up he would have had for this upcoming year. K-state would have been a hell of a team. It really is unfortunate, but as far as respectability I think it gives you potential for finding someone who wants to be in the Midwest for sometime. Huggins really isn't the kind of person you want coaching your kids, and his actions display this.

Sorry, but that's not my personality.  Every fanbase overreacts after something like this, it's just the way it goes.  How do you think ku fans felt after back-to-back first round losses?  It sucked, but you can't just give up on your team.  Huggins obviously didn't care about what was best for K-State.  He wanted what was best for himself.  That's the type of guy he is.

K-State deserves better.  Like I said, in the short-run, this type of thing hurts like hell.  After a couple years, you guys are going to look back and remember this day as a blessing in disguise.  I think a coach like Anthony Grant would be a great hire for K-State.  Jeff Capel seems to be doing pretty well at Oklahoma after getting stuck in a pretty tough situation.  K-State showed this season that you guys are serious about basketball.  With the right coach, I think K-State can continue to build something special in Manhattan.
