Regarding the retards that actually believe Weiser didn't want to hire Huggins

http://kansasstate.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=419&tid=92059512&mid=92059512&sid=889&style=2

It was absolutely obvious from day 1 once we lost to TTU, that Huggins was our only real candidate. We (ksufans.com community) were trying to search for others, and the only one that came up was Mcdermott. (Unless you want to believe doyel/hinson)

People need to give credit to Weiser. This was 100% his move, and his success. Not Fogler, not Wefald not badke, not Rusty.

Not to mention all the anti-ADTW's that say it was a "no-brainer." Seriously, in February 2006 the support for Huggs was about 20% tops. It wasn't untill a week into the coaching search that the majority was for the hire.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Todd?

*shrug* I guess I'm cool with Weiser getting the credit.

Why are people questioning this?  Just unfair ADTW hate?

Pretty much.

We (you/me) should take offense to the "no-brainer" notion. That's garbage.

(Did you think we guessed on putting Huggins on the front page of this site the moment the job came open?)

Fitz is the omnipotent Wildcat.
"Bob and myself had a nice chuckle over that one. Bob told me, ‘How could I say the things I’ve been saying about Kansas State to the kids and go someplace else?’ ”
Weiser, on rumors that Huggins might go to West Virginia, 4/26/2006

    Fear the Brick
The only thing I don't get about the second myth, is why ADTW and Fogler (in any interview they've given) basically state that Fogler turned ADTW on to the idea and then from that point, once ADTW found out more about Huggins, he was dead seet on getting Huggins.  It's kind of neither here nor there, but just strikes me odd.

I have no doubt in my mind that HCBH was the #1 target from the minute he fired Wooly. A lot of media members said from the beginning that they thought that was was going to be McDermott but I wonder if they were just saying that.

Even if that **IS** true, why does Weiser get any less credit? Listen, if Prince flops I will have no problem saying it's 100% Weisers fault.

Look at all these other fan bases/Ad's across the country. They all think Huggins is a thug and would never touch him. It's hilarious and shows just how lucky we are Weiser saw through all the propaganda that got Huggs fired at UCINN.

Don't know, don't care.  I was hoping to land Huggs from the second JW was released.  All I know is I'm damned happy with the way things came out in the wash.

I was able to find my first official "Hire Huggs" post:  http://www.ksufans.com/forums/index.php?topic=426.msg3544#msg3544

After we lose to Texas tonight and it finally becomes technically impossible for Wooly to retain his job under the Weiser conditions, Weiser should hire Huggins before somebody else gets him.  I'd be on the phone with Huggy right now working out the details.

I was on the Majerus wagon.  And Lowery.  And thought Huggins was a "no chance" hire.  FWIW.

I couldn't be happier to be wrong.

I got into a huge argument with my dad about it.

The conversation went something like this:

Dad: "I want Alden."
Me: "I'd rather have Huggins."
Dad: "THUGGINS!?!? NO WAY!  THE GUY IS A THUG AND CAN'T RECRUIT!"
Me: "Whatever dad.  You don't know what you're talking about."
Dad: "I've been watching basketball a lot longer than you, trust me."
Me: "That just makes you old AND dumb."

Today
Dad: "Man I'm so glad we hired Huggins"
Chris: "I knew you'd say that.  What happened to the 'Thuggins' attitude?"
Dad: "What are you talking about?  I never said that!  I always wanted Huggins."

You can basically swap the "Dad" name out for a lot of K-state fans and it's still true.

Not even close. Looking at the media and the schedules/results from 2000-2006 I shook my head* and tried to figure out how I kept following KSU basketball

I was never really a KSU fan until we hired Huggins and started winning in BBall. That being said, how can you defend Weiser after hiring Prince?

Just messing Rusty.  Rico's career speaks for itself and he certainly did better than Wooly in a worse situation.  If anything his career/finish was closer to TA than JW, but he had better results than both over his career.  Patton will go down as "the Danny Nee" of Colorado.

    The "other" KSU
I was on the Huggins bandwagon from day one. I was disgusted by years of medeocraty. I arrived at KSU in 1998, just in time to watch the last of the trainwreck that we can call the Asbury era - AND I was convinced that we would go out and hit the grand slam then... instead we got a freaking infield pop-up with Wooly. I remember hearing an interview between Rome and Huggie-bear... and honestly, I didn't think much about it- but when I heard the rumors and did my research (wins/success etc.) I never looked back. For all out there who doubted Huggie, and you all will sit around and deny it, just think about the direction that our roundball is going - Huggins rules, he has stated that he loves it here in Manhattan, he has also inferred that he would like to retire here. If that doesn't make you happy, I dont know what will. BTW, Huggins rules! I tip my hat to Weiser, but if he lets Huggins go - he is an idiot. The way I thought about it was like this: Weiser took a chance with Prince, and there is no way he could have taken a chance with a no-name coach for basketball. If one fails that is OK (I guess) but if both failed, Weiser would be working at Chipotle.

Heh.  Didn't catch that the first time I read it.  Didn't they put up like thirty potential candidates on the front page?  I guess one of them had to stick.

I think the article the next day with the list of candidates had Huggins for the photo.  He's really preaching the choir there b/c all those folks are already paying anyway.

And I won't deny I was a Huggins doubter.  Sometimes its good to be wrong.

Well, Huggins was the only coach on that list anyone had heard of...plus, he sells subscriptions.

I remember you thought Huggs was a "city guy".  :)
