Kelly has very good moves in the low post and is a good high post passer. His defense and rotations are lacking and he doesn't attack the boards with strength. Our whole team backed down when the game got physical. Our defensive intensity was lacking and our guards do not control the game and show any consistent feel for how we want to run our offense. Because of this, the lesser-experienced players don't have any feel. First 4 possessions of the game, not even a look inside. After that, Kelly was killing Ole Miss down low in the first half, but just couldn't make a free throw to save his life. Late first half, Pullen took over. Early 2nd half, Clemente tried to get in the game but, the problem is, he doesn't get anyone else involved. He is just looking for his own shot, which he didn't find until he felt some urgency.
Judge has great potential and is currently a solid player who is learning what he can do. Both MacGruder and Russel are also trying to find their way so their confidence is kind of shaky, and easily goes away when they don't find immediate success on the court. The whole team defers to the guards but, and they are pretty good guards, but not dominant.
Our defensive intensity is significantly less than last year, or in years past. Our rebounding effort and intensity is also lacking. Frank needs to get this area improved quickly or we are due for some more lackluster, NCAA hope dashing losses i the pre-season.
