    The very best.
So, whenever you play pickup ball @ the rec or something, isn't it annoying when the person guarding you plays tight/on the ball defense?

This leads me to believe this is the correct type of defense. You must pressure the guards, imo.

Frank has it right.  :block:
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

    I survived the Dickey/Parrish era.
Totally agree.

All offensive plays start with the guards (why else would they be the ones holding up 1 or 2 fingers while coming across half court?).  If I'm looking to disrupt (um, defend) an offensive attack, aren't I much better off to disrupt it as soon as possible?

But, on the other hand, it's ridiculously tiring to play "on the ball defense"

I play very loose defense as my lateral quickness is pathetic.

Tight, on the ball defense is the way to go as long as you have the athletes and the bigs to do it.  This is probably the first year that we have had enough depth and the right type of players to play this way and have it work.  Last year the guards could pressure the ball, but when they got beat (which will happen when you play this style) we had nobody in the paint who was quick enough to contest a shot.  Colon, Darren, Anderson had no lateral quickness to speak of so they were very slow rotating and had little athletic ability.  Thus we could pressure all day at the top but we had no second line of defense.  With Judge and Kelly down low this year we should see a drop in opponents FG% because we will have some athletic bigs who will be quick enough to get in position and contest shots in the paint.  Finally the pieces are coming together so that we can play the style of defense Frank wants and not get burned.

Also sucks when said defensive player overplays your weak hand.  Never liked the guy that though he should be rec defensive MVP.

zone is the way to go in recball IMO.  Make crappy white kids from western ks beat you with the long ball.  Rebound tenaciously.

<---spent way to many hours playing b-ball at the rec.  Loved it.  Even was allowed on the court with the black guys, they liked me maybe they thought I was just Albino.
