Tight, on the ball defense is the way to go as long as you have the athletes and the bigs to do it. This is probably the first year that we have had enough depth and the right type of players to play this way and have it work. Last year the guards could pressure the ball, but when they got beat (which will happen when you play this style) we had nobody in the paint who was quick enough to contest a shot. Colon, Darren, Anderson had no lateral quickness to speak of so they were very slow rotating and had little athletic ability. Thus we could pressure all day at the top but we had no second line of defense. With Judge and Kelly down low this year we should see a drop in opponents FG% because we will have some athletic bigs who will be quick enough to get in position and contest shots in the paint. Finally the pieces are coming together so that we can play the style of defense Frank wants and not get burned.
